The third and final season centres on two star-crossed lovers: Tswana doctor Naledi Montsho and Zulu taxi driver Qhawe. Gaisang K Noge (<em>House of Zwide<\/em>) stars as Naledi opposite DStv Mzansi Viewers\u2019 Choice Favourite Rising Star winner Kwenzo Ngcobo, dubbed \u201cthe Woolworths of amadoda\u201d by <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Itsscharlotte12\/status\/1486669409934581763?s=20&amp;t=3p3YsxtPwzle7j3gL5z80w\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a>, as Qhawe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most viewed series on Showmax ever, <em>The Wife<\/em> won 2022 DStv Mzansi Magic Viewers\u2019 Choice Awards for Kwenzo (Rising Star) and Abdul Khoza (Best Actor). At the 2022 SAFTAs, <em>The Wife<\/em> was up for 10 awards, including Best Telenovela, and won Best Actor and Supporting Actor for Bonko Khoza and Abdul Khoza respectively. Season 2 lead Khanyi Mbau has just been nominated as African Social Star of 2022 at The People\u2019s Choice Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Season 3 picks up with Naledi kidnapped and the Zulu brothers\u2019 crimes now front-page news. \u201cThis season is going to be the most explosive yet; it\u2019s going to break your hearts and heal them again,\u201d says Yolisa Phahle, CEO of Showmax and MultiChoice Connected Video. \u201cThere\u2019s more romance, and more action, and we\u2019re now celebrating Setswana as well as Zulu culture. autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DONKERBOS S1 <\/strong>| Tuesdays from 29 November 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the bodies of six children are found in the backwater forests of Donkerbos, Limpopo, an ostracised detective (multi-award-winner Erica Wessels) must wrestle with her dark past, her family and a distrustful community to catch the killer before another child is taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Created by Nico Scheepers (<em>N\u00earens, Noord-Kaap<\/em>) and produced by Nagvlug (<em>Skemerdans, Barakat<\/em>), <em>Donkerbos<\/em> is a small-town murder mystery that switches between English, Afrikaans and Venda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The star-studded cast includes SAFTA Lifetime Achievement Award winner Thoko Ntshinga (<em>The River<\/em>), Fleur du Cap winners Sanda Shandu (<em>Skemerdans<\/em>) and Nicole Holm (<em>Fynskrif<\/em>), Silwerskerm winners Stian Bam (<em>Racheltjie de Beer<\/em>), Jacques Bessenger (<em>Fynskrif<\/em>, <em>Warrior<\/em>) and Aphiwe Sithole (<em>Poppie Nongena<\/em>), and multi-award-winners Leandie Du Randt (<em>Vuil Wasgoed<\/em>) and Wilhelm van der Walt (<em>Fynskrif)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scheepers\u2019 previous series, <em>N\u00earens, Noord-Kaap, <\/em>won the SAFTA for Editing (for Regardt Botha, Markus Van Schalkwyk and Eva Du Preez), with <em>Channel24<\/em> giving it five stars and Leon van Nierop calling it \u201ca little gem\u201d and \u201cmasterful\u201d in <em>Rapport<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"It&#039;s strangely quiet in this small town... | Donkerbos Trailer | Showmax Original\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gYSzvvUds2o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; Young People Awards: Best Animation, Director (Max Lang and South African Daniel Snaddon), and Writer (Max Lang and Suzanne Lang).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Animated in Cape Town by Triggerfish and produced by Magic Light Pictures, <em>The Snail and the Whale<\/em> follows the amazing journey of a tiny snail who longs to see the world and hitches a ride on the tail of a huge humpback whale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a lovely surprise to find that, three years after we wrapped <em>The Snail and the Whale<\/em>, we have been nominated for three BAFTAs,\u201d says Snaddon. \u201cWe\u2019re up against such incredible competition [including <em>Hilda<\/em> and the Oscar-nominated <em>Robin Robin<\/em>], so it\u2019s a real honour for us all, and I\u2019m so incredibly proud of the teams at Magic Light Pictures and Triggerfish who made it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the picture book written in 2003 by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler (creators of the modern classic <em>The Gruffalo)<\/em>, <em>The Snail and the Whale <\/em>has already won Best Special Production at the 2021 Annie Awards, as well as prizes from the likes of the British Animation Awards, Cartoons on the Bay, New York International Children\u2019s Film Festival, The Venice TV Awards, and the BANFF Rockie\u2019s Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Snail and the Whale<\/em> was voiced by a starry British acting cast including Sally Hawkins (<em>Paddington<\/em>, <em>The Shape of Water<\/em>) as Snail, Rob Brydon (<em>Gavin &amp; Also look out for the Showmax Original from Nigeria, <em>Flawsome<\/em>, starring AMVCA Trailblazer Award winner Bisola Aiyeola, Ini Dima-Okojie, Sharon Ooja and Enado Odigie as four friends, landing in weekly episodes from 10 November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TRAVEL: <\/strong>Erns Grundling takes on a 270 km pilgrimage from Uniondale to Mossel Bay in <em>Elders: Tuinroete<\/em> (Garden Route), the fifth season of kykNET\u2019s SAFTA-winning travel show. Binge from 10 November 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOOD: <\/strong>Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, South Africa\u2019s first Michelin-star chef, is back with Season 4 of his SAFTA-winning food show for VIA, <em>JAN<\/em>.
