It was an exceptionally bloody conflict, with atrocities committed on both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Gitu-Wa-Kahengeri.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Gitu-Wa-Kahengeri.jpg?resize=450%2C253&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17663\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Gitu-Wa-Kahengeri.jpg?w=450&amp;ssl=1 450w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Gitu-Wa-Kahengeri.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Gitu Wa Kahengeri Chairman Mau Mau War Veterans Associations who is interviewed in the film A Very British Way of Torture<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>For decades, however, many of the worst abuses carried out by British colonial forces have been kept hidden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The filmmakers drew on a vast archival cache of thousands of files, hidden for more than 50 years by MI5 and MI6 relating&nbsp;to the end of the \u201cempire\u201d that came to light during a High Court case in 2013 brought by Mau Mau veterans, pleading compensation for torture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Piecing together survivor testimonies and expert analysis from a team of British and Kenyan historians, this film sheds new light on shocking new evidence.
