Billed as the \u2018bromance of the decade\u2019, Adulting <\/em>is now streaming on Showmax, with new episodes every Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

The eight-part 18SN drama follows four varsity friends, whose strong bond has held them together even as their journeys in life have taken them in very<\/em> different directions. As they try to find love and success in Johannesburg after university, they turn to each other for support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early reviews are glowing. Citizen<\/em>\u2019s Kay Selisho says, \u201cThe first episode is brilliant\u201d; in City Press<\/em>, Nompumelelo Magagula calls the show \u201cexciting fun\u201d; Sowetan<\/em>\u2019s Masego Seemela hails it as \u201craw\u201d, \u201creal\u201d and \u201crisque\u201d; and DRUM<\/em>\u2019s Keamogetswe Matlala says, \u201cIt\u2019s a bromance like you\u2019ve never seen before\u2026 that is going to take everyone by storm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thembinkosi Mthembu (Mabutho in The River<\/em>, Junior in The Republic, <\/em>and King Dingiswayo in the upcoming epic Shaka iLembe<\/em>) stars as Bonga, the overachiever in the friendship group. \u201cHe\u2019s a guy who goes after what he wants in life, who likes his friends, family and girls, although he doesn\u2019t believe in love,\u201d says Thembinkosi. \u201cHe\u2019s at a stage in his life where things are changing for him, as he\u2019s bidding on an R80m contract.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, Luthando BU Mthembu (Big Brother Mzansi,<\/em> Ayeye: Stripped<\/em>, Redemption<\/em>) is Vuyani, a toy boy reliant on his sugar mamma, Beth (SAFTA nominee Winnie Ntshaba (The Herd<\/em>, House of Zwide<\/em>, Generations). \u201c<\/em>He\u2019s a slay king; his face is his business,\u201d says BU. \u201cHe\u2019s not too serious; he might take something that\u2019s very serious and make it light. I think people will relate to his playfulness; I feel like everybody at some point was fun and not too deep.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nhlanhla Kunene (Lavish, Muvhango<\/em>) is hot-headed bad-boy Eric, trying to be a good father with limited access to his daughter, while Thabiso Rammusi (The Suit<\/em>) is Mpho, a family man having an affair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou know after varsity, life divides you, as you get different jobs and move in different directions,\u201d says Thabiso. \u201cBut because of the bromance these guys have, they\u2019ve still there for each other. The connection these brothers have isn\u2019t common in society these days.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a beautiful bromance on set,\u201d says Nhlanhla. \u201cWe have a lot of fun together so that comes across on screen. At the same time, every character is going through something. And the only way they find comfort is when they come together and share their experiences. No matter what happens, we have each other’s back, we hear each other, and we\u2019ll tell each other straight. So that\u2019s also where that bromance comes in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jumping from amapiano clubs to G-Wagon showrooms and from bedrooms to boardrooms, this season also features Sikelelwa Vuyeleni (Hope<\/em>, House of Zwide<\/em>) as Eric\u2019s baby mamma; Lungile Duma (The River,<\/em> Durban Gen<\/em>) as Mpho\u2019s wife; and newcomer Londeka Shishi as Bonga\u2019s love interest. Also look out for the likes of Buhle Samuels (Kings of Jo\u2019burg, One Night KwaMxolisi<\/em>); Dr Fezile Mkhize, former Mr World South Africa; 2022 DSTV Mzansi Viewers\u2019 Choice Best Actress nominee Dele Malinga (Umkhokha<\/em>); SAFTA nominee Lindani Nkosi (Housekeepers<\/em>); and Comics\u2019 Choice nominee Isaac Gampu, as well as cameos from 2022 BET Best International Act nominee Major League DJz, 2022 Basadi Amapiano Artist of the Year Boohle, Mohale Motaung and photographer Austin Malema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adulting<\/em> is the first Showmax Original from Tshedza Pictures, the production company behind the International Emmy-nominated telenovela The River<\/em> and the SAFTA Best TV Drama winner The Republic<\/em>. Tshedza Pictures\u2019 co-founders Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon have won five Best Scriptwriting SAFTA awards in the last four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thembinkosi praises Adulting<\/em>\u2019s scripts. \u201cEvery scene is funny and well-written, the pace is quick, and the scripts don\u2019t sugarcoat anything; there\u2019s no filter,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As BU says, \u201cAdulting <\/em>is gonna feel like a night out with the gents in Jozi.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adulting<\/em> is the first of two Showmax Originals from Tshedza this year. The second, Outlaws,<\/em> is a cross-cultural love story of epic proportions, which plays out in the dangerous world of cattle theft syndicates, in the lawless land on the border between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal. Outlaws <\/em>is expected to premiere first on Showmax towards the end of 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
