The first two episodes of Season 2 of Yellowjackets<\/em> drop on Showmax on 1 April 2023, with new episodes on Saturdays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hit Showtime series follows a high school girls\u2019 soccer team that survives a plane crash in the 90s. The Yellowjackets barely made it through summer, but now, as winter begins to bite, we\u2019ll see if hunger and desperation turn into full-on psychosis. Meanwhile, 25 years later, each survivor must determine if the darkness is coming for them or from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellowjackets\u2019 <\/em>first season was named Best Horror at the 2022 Critics Choice Super Awards and Best Drama at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards. It was also nominated for seven Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new season sees Melanie Lynskey (Candy<\/em>) back in her Critics Choice and Critics Choice Super-winning role as Shauna, alongside Christina Ricci (Wednesday<\/em>) in her Emmy-nominated role as Misty, multi-award winner Tawny Cypress (The Blacklist: Redemption<\/em>) in her Black Reel Award-nominated role as Taissa, and Oscar nominee Juliette Lewis (Natural Born Killers<\/em>) as Natalie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their teen characters are once again portrayed by Critics Choice nominee Sophie N\u00e9lisse (The Book Thief<\/em>), Samantha Hanratty (The Suite Life of Zack & Cody<\/em>), Sophie Thatcher (The Book of Boba Fett<\/em>), and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream<\/em>, The Leftovers<\/em>) in her GALECA- and Queerties-nominated role as the young Taissa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This season also introduces Critics Choice winner Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings<\/em> trilogy) as Walter, a citizen detective who seems to know more than he should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Season 2 is again a hit with the critics, with a <\/em>94% critics\u2019 rating on Rotten Tomatoes<\/em>. As The Guardian<\/em> says, \u201cJuliette Lewis is sublime, Christina Ricci finds her perfect co-star [Elijah Wood], and you\u2019re constantly kept on your toes with parallel timelines and tons of creepy thrills. What a follow-up!… This wonderfully imaginative sequel is even better than last time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Season 1 got people talking, Season 2 has set social media alight with speculation about the multiple mysteries at the core of the show, including whether or not there is a dark and powerful force inhabiting the wilderness. \u201cI love the fan theories,\u201d Tawny told IMDb<\/em>. \u201cI love that people are imagining all these different possibilities. You\u2019re all wrong. But keep going. It\u2019s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Season 1 saw the teenage Taissa dating Yellowjackets goalkeeper, Vanessa “Van” Palmer (Liv Hewson from Bombshell<\/em> and Santa Clarita Diet<\/em>), but the adult Van was notably missing from the 2021 timeline. She\u2019s finally introduced in Season 2, played by Emmy nominee Lauren Ambrose from Servant <\/em>and Six Feet Under<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Already nominated for an Emmy for its Outstanding Casting, the show has once again nailed the scary-resemblance factor with the teen and adult versions of Van. As Samantha puts it, \u201cSeeing Liv and Lauren together, there is no way these two aren\u2019t related. I think we need to do a DNA test ASAP, because it\u2019s pretty uncanny.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On coming in as the grown-up Van, Lauren told Collider<\/em>, \u201cI just really loved Liv\u2019s performance, [which] was so good that they decided to keep the character around\u2026 and now I have a gig! So I\u2019m grateful for that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also coming in to shake things up for the former Yellowjackets is actress Simone Kessell (Princess Leia\u2019s mother in Obi-Wan Kenobi <\/em>and Blackbeard\u2019s mother on Our Flag Means Death<\/em>), to answer one of the Season 1 finale\u2019s biggest cliffhangers \u2013 \u201cWho the f*ck is Lottie Matthews?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But, back in 1996, it\u2019s about to get very cold and very dark for the teenage Yellowjackets. \u201cLast season was crazy. This season is insane. And there\u2019s something eerily different about that,\u201d Samantha said during a round-table with Entertainment Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liv said, \u201cI feel like it\u2019s ratcheted up a lot in terms of intensity and the stakes being higher, and the places that the show feels confident going and what\u2019s being asked of everybody. It\u2019s more extreme\u2026 I\u2019m really proud of it, and I\u2019m excited for people to see it. \u2026 and then there\u2019s a couple of things I\u2019m nervous about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
