Their strong bond has held them together after varsity even as their journeys in life have taken them in <em>very <\/em>different directions. As they try to find love and success, they turn to each other for support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also look out for the likes of SAFTA nominee Winnie Ntshaba (<em>The Herd<\/em>, <em>House of Zwide<\/em>, <em>Generations<\/em>) as Vuyani\u2019s sugar mamma and breakout star Londeka Shishi as Bonga\u2019s love interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Adulting <\/em>is created by Tshedza Pictures\u2019 Phatu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon, who\u2019ve won five Best Scriptwriting SAFTAs in the past four years for smash hit shows like <em>The Republic<\/em> and <em>The River<\/em>, which was also nominated for an International Emmy. They were allegedly murdered for killsurance: funeral cover payouts worth over R1.4 million to Ndlovu. Ndlovu was also sentenced to an additional 30 years: 10 years each for fraud, incitement to commit murder, and the attempted murder of her mother, Maria Mushwana, her sister Joyce, and Joyce\u2019s five children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The jaw-dropping finale claimed that Ndlovu had taken out 28 other funeral insurance policies &#8211; including on her mother and her brother. The finale also revealed that Sergeant Keshi Mabunda was investigating Ndlovu for the alleged murder of her first child, Jaunty Khoza, who died of unnatural causes in 2008, age 13 &#8211; leaving his mother with a R12 000+ payout as the only remaining beneficiary of his father, Hand Khoza, Ndlovu\u2019s deceased first husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>True-crime special mentions:<\/strong> <em>Girl, Taken<\/em>, <em>Stella Murders<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story Trailer\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/j4y1R_ngEt8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>RISE: THE SIYA KOLISI STORY <\/strong>| A Tribeca-winning documentary<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June 2023, <em>Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story<\/em> won the Audience Prize for documentary at Tribeca, one of the world&#8217;s top film festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 92-minute documentary reveals a different side to the Springboks\u2019 first Black captain, who led South Africa to victory at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. In addition to documenting his improbable rise to international stardom, the intimate documentary also sees Kolisi open up about his struggle with alcoholism and his rollercoaster relationship with his wife, Rachel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Orange Films and Star Films production for Supersport, <em>Rise<\/em> is directed by Tebogo \u201cTebza\u201d Malope, who\u2019s won Gold at Cannes Lions and the Grand Prix at the Loerie Awards, among other honours. The documentary boasts a soundtrack by Mandisi Dyantis and Haezer, who also edited the feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Tribeca programmer Casey Baron says,<em> Rise: The Siya Kolisi Story<\/em> &#8220;jumps off the screen like a fairy tale&#8221; and is &#8220;universal in its themes of overcoming, community, passion, and forgiveness.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Inspirational documentary special mentions: <\/strong><em>Blind Ambition<\/em>, <em>Down: A Comrades Story<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"It&#039;s strangely quiet in this small town... | Donkerbos Trailer | Showmax Original\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gYSzvvUds2o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DONKERBOS<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>| A critically acclaimed murder mystery<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Showmax Original <em>Donkerbos <\/em>was the only African series selected for<strong> <\/strong>the prestigious Berlinale Series Market Selects 2023 &#8211; described as being for &#8220;curated series with high market potential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the upcoming Silwerskerm Festival Awards for Film and Television, Erica Wessels is nominated as Best Actress: Drama for her role in <em>Donkerbos <\/em>as an detective investigating the murder of six children, whose bodies are found in the backwater forests of Donkerbos, Limpopo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Created by Nico Scheepers (<em>N\u00earens, Noord-Kaap<\/em>), the small-town murder mystery switches between Afrikaans, English and Venda. Reviews were glowing, with comparisons being made to <em>Mare of Easttown<\/em>, <em>True Detective<\/em> and Scandinavian noir, with the word &#8220;masterpiece&#8221; popping up repeatedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edwin van der Walt and Nicole Holm are also up for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards at Silwerskerm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Murder mystery special mention: <\/strong><em>Recipes for Love and Murder, <\/em>released on Showmax in May 2023, after being selected for Berlinale Series Market Selects 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Superworm - Trailer | BBC\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_LkiEsOWiM8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SUPERWORM<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>| A Kidscreen-winning animation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Superworm is super-long and super-strong, and always saves the day. But who can save him when he gets too full of himself and is captured by the evil Wizard Lizard?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Directed by South Africans Sarah Scrimgeour and Jac Hamman, <em>Superworm<\/em> won Best One-Off, Special or TV Movie at the 2023 Kidscreen Awards, where it was competing against <em>Luck<\/em> and <em>Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas<\/em>. As <em>Observer <\/em>says, \u201cIf you enjoyed the gritty, character-driven historical fiction of <em>Deadwood<\/em> or <em>Boardwalk Empire<\/em>, you will love <em>Warrior<\/em>. If you were sucked into the political intrigue, blood and guts, and f*cked up family drama of <em>Game of Thrones<\/em>, you will love <em>Warrior<\/em>. If you\u2019re into martial arts cinema, particularly the incredibly intricate and shockingly gnarly modern variety, then you will <em>love<\/em> <em>Warrior<\/em>.
