Once billed as \u201cthe Ikea of Africa,\u201d Steinhoff employed more than 130 000 people on more than 40 brands across four continents &#8211; until 5 December 2017, when CEO Markus Jooste resigned amid an investigation into accounting irregularities, and Steinhoff\u2019s share price plunged by 90% in one week. This wiped over R200 billion off Johannesburg&#8217;s stock exchange, the JSE \u2013 and off ordinary South Africans\u2019 pensions and investments. As <em>Financial Mail <\/em>editor Rob Rose says in the documentary, \u201cThat\u2019s South Africa\u2019s Enron.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Director Richard Gregory and IdeaCandy producer Elle Oosthuizen were just named the Sanlam Financial Journalist of The Year, the first TV journalists to earn the prestigious accolade in nearly a decade, with <em>Steinheist <\/em>also taking home the Broadcast: TV and Video Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"It&#039;s strangely quiet in this small town... | Donkerbos Trailer | Showmax Original\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gYSzvvUds2o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Donkerbos<\/em> is the most nominated drama at the SAFTAs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With eight nominations, the Showmax Original <em>Donkerbos <\/em>is the most nominated drama at this year\u2019s SAFTAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erica Wessels has been snubbed for her lead role<em> <\/em>as Fanie, a detective investigating the murder of six children whose bodies are found in the backwater forests of Donkerbos, Limpopo, but Nicole Holm cracked a Best Supporting Actress nomination as her best friend, Marietjie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the SAFTAs\u2019 Best TV Drama category, <em>Donkerbos <\/em>is up against the likes of the epic Showmax Original <em>Blood Psalms<\/em> and Mzansi Magic\u2019s <em>Lavish. Donkerbos <\/em>creator Nico Scheepers is also up for the Best Director SAFTA, competing against Cindy Lee and Christiaan Olwagen for M-Net\u2019s <em>Desert Rose <\/em>and <em>Recipes for Love and Murder, <\/em>which are both available to binge on Showmax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Showmax Original <em>Donkerbos <\/em>was the only African series selected for<strong> <\/strong>the prestigious Berlinale Series Market Selects 2023, which is described as being for &#8220;curated series with high market potential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the upcoming Silwerskerm Festival Awards for Film and Television, Wessels, Holm, and Edwin van der Walt are also up for Best Actress, Supporting Actress and Actor respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gaia Trailer #1 (2021) | Movieclips Indie\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-mzBSDEK1QY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Gaia<\/em> is the most nominated film overall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With nine nominations, including Best Film, kykNET\u2019s <em>Gaia<\/em> is the most nominated movie at the 2023 SAFTAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monique Rockman is up for a Best Actress SAFTA as a forest ranger injured on a routine mission in the Tsitsikamma National Park. She is saved by two off-the-grid survivalists but what starts out as a welcome rescue grows more suspicious as the son and his renegade father reveal a cultish devotion to the forest. When their cabin is attacked, it\u2019s clear there is a far greater threat in this unrelenting wilderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jaco Bouwer (<em>Spinners<\/em>, <em>4 Mure<\/em>) is up for Best Director and Jorrie van der Walt is up for Best Cinematography at the SAFTAs, having won the same category at SXSW, one of the most prestigious film festivals globally. Having already won Best Film at Silwerskerm, among other honours, <em>Gaia<\/em> has an 85% critics\u2019 rating on <em>Rotten Tomatoes<\/em>, making Best Horror of the Year lists everywhere from <em>Forbes<\/em> to <em>Variety<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Legacy is coming to M-Net | M-Net\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8W2nSg4wS84?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Legacy<\/em> is the most nominated telenovela or soap at the SAFTAS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 12 nominations, M-Net\u2019s <em>Legacy<\/em> is the most nominated telenovela or soap at the 2023 SAFTAs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set in the fast-lane world of investment billionaires, <em>Legacy<\/em> follows the Price family after the death of the family patriarch. Co-stars Kgomotso Christopher and Michelle Botes are both up for Best Actress, with Dawid Minnaar nominated for Best Actor as Willem Potgieter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tshedza\u2019s Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon are largely competing against themselves in the telenovela scriptwriting category, with nominations for <em>Legacy,<\/em> 1Magic\u2019s <em>The River a<\/em>nd SABC2\u2019s <em>Giyani \u2013 The Land of Blood<\/em>, although kykNET\u2019s <em>Diepe Waters <\/em>and Mzansi Magic\u2019s <em>DiepCity<\/em>, last year\u2019s big winner, are also in the running.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the SAFTAs\u2019 Best Telenovela category, <em>Legacy <\/em>is up against the record-breaking Showmax Original <em>The Wife<\/em>, kykNET &amp;
