{"id":2038,"date":"2016-07-23T13:56:42","date_gmt":"2016-07-23T11:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/?p=2038"},"modified":"2016-07-23T13:56:42","modified_gmt":"2016-07-23T11:56:42","slug":"risen-dvd-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2016\/07\/23\/risen-dvd-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Risen (DVD): Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Film<\/h3>\n<p>Set in Judea about 33 AD\u201a and following a Romin Tribune on his quest to find the missing body of a crucified Jew<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a Risen shows us some other aspects of life taking place at the time of the crucifiction of Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While much thought and research have gone in to the production of Risen<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and with the main thread of the story being that of seeking to find if Jesus has been resurrected<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a the filmmakers do not push religion or Christianity on the viewer. The story holds value<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a whether you are a devout believer<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a or just someone looking for some entertainment for the.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are moments where the Twelve Apostles seem to be portrayed as giggling bafoons<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a seemingly too jolly to take serious the horrific nature of the Roman oppression the land was suffering under at the time. But for the most part<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a the story follows a serious side<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a sharing the biblical details of the time and expanding on events that are often not the main focus when this story is told.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The recreation of the local geography and architecture of the time is astounding<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and one can learn more about this in the bonus features.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"RISEN Official Trailer - In Theaters Now!\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OcTVLfn5i8g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Disc<\/h3>\n<p>Risen is available now<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a to purchase on disc<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a in South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Overall, the disc for Risen is of good quality, with a decent selection of extra features.<\/p>\n<h6>Video<\/h6>\n<p>Video is encoded in a high bitrate. There are no visible artefacts. Colours are vibrant<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a with no colour bleed. Blacks are deep<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a with no visible noise.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6>Audio<\/h6>\n<p>Sound is encoded at a high average bitrate. The audio is presented in a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. Dialogue is clear on the centre channel<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a with use of the surround channels to expand the on-screen world<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and further draw the viewer in to the story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are several choices for audio languages<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and an even greater choice of subtitles.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6>Navigation<\/h6>\n<p>Navigation is simple<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and easy to follow. Menu backgrounds are static<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a with background music on the main menu.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Viewers can skip to a specific scenes<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a via the scene selection sub-menu<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a with these presented as large thumbnails.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6>Bonus Features<\/h6>\n<p><strong>Feature Commentary with Patrick and Paul Aiello:\u00a0<\/strong>An insight in to the whole process of the film. A great resource for those who wish to learn more about filmmaking, those who are looking to learn more about how Risen was made, and an open ticket to behind the scenes of the whole process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Mystery of the Resurrection: Making Risen:\u00a0<\/strong>More behind the scenes magic, of how the location of the film were created, how the story came to be, and was brought to life, the location, the set design, and the various creative choices made by the filmmakers in order to tell the story yet keep true to historical and biblical texts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creating A.D. Jerusalem:\u00a0<\/strong>A very interesting look at how the cities landscape and architecture were created in the film from the use of existing buildings and landscapes\u201a parts of ruins<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and the seamless integration of computer generated set extensions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A wonderful insight for an audience<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and budding filmmakers alike<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a bringing a sort of grounding to the locations we get to experience in such detail throughout the film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Script to Screen:\u00a0<\/strong>The journey of the film<span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a starting with the initial idea<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.75;\">\u201a and the efforts put in by filmmakers to bring that to fruition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Previews:\u00a0<\/strong>Carrying the theme of miracles and prayer further, there are previews for <em>Miracles from Heaven<\/em>, <em>War Room<\/em>, <em>Where Hope Grows<\/em>, Heaven is for Real, When the Game Stands Tall, and <em>The Remaining\u00a0<\/em>(Read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2015\/02\/22\/the-remaining\/\" target=\"_blank\">SAMDB Review of The Remaining<\/a> here).
