{"id":20413,"date":"2023-11-10T14:53:41","date_gmt":"2023-11-10T12:53:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/?p=20413"},"modified":"2023-11-10T15:05:17","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T13:05:17","slug":"academy-womens-luncheon-presented-by-chanel-celebrates-women-filmmakers-at-the-academy-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2023\/11\/10\/academy-womens-luncheon-presented-by-chanel-celebrates-women-filmmakers-at-the-academy-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Academy Women\u2019s Luncheon, Presented By Chanel, Celebrates Women Filmmakers At The Academy Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in partnership for the second year with CHANEL, hosted the Academy Women\u2019s Luncheon in Los Angeles today (November 9), bringing together women from all facets of the filmmaking community to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/academy-gold\/fellowship-for-women\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/academy-gold\/fellowship-for-women\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academy Gold Fellowship for Women<\/a>, the Academy\u2019s program to support emerging women filmmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/academylogo.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"107\" height=\"107\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/academylogo.jpg?resize=107%2C107&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2445\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The luncheon at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures was attended by women from across the film industry, including <strong>Maude Apatow<\/strong>, <strong>Annette Bening<\/strong>, <strong>Lily-Rose Depp<\/strong>, <strong>America Ferrera<\/strong>, <strong>Gina Gammell<\/strong>, <strong>Molly Gordon<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Si\u00e2n Heder<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>H.E.R.<\/strong>, <strong>Patty Jenkins<\/strong>, <strong>Laura Karpman<\/strong>, <strong>Riley Keough<\/strong>, <strong>Kristie Macosko Krieger<\/strong>, <strong>Greta Lee<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Eva Longoria<\/strong>, <strong>Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/strong>, <strong>Leslie Mann<\/strong>, <strong>Dylan Meyer<\/strong>, <strong>Cara Jade Myers<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Ashley Park<\/strong>, <strong>Gina Prince-Bythewood<\/strong>, <strong>A.V. Rockwell<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Michelle Satter<\/strong>, <strong>Sadie Sink<\/strong>, <strong>Kristen Stewart,<\/strong> <strong>Diane Warren<\/strong> and <strong>Rita Wilson<\/strong>. &nbsp;The afternoon featured opening remarks by Academy President <strong>Janet Yang<\/strong>, followed by actor and former Academy governor <strong>Annette Bening<\/strong>, who introduced this year\u2019s U.S. Gold Fellowship for Women recipient, <strong>Erica Eng<\/strong>. &nbsp;Actor-producer-director <strong>America Ferrera<\/strong> delivered a keynote presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eng is a fifth-generation Chinese American director native to Oakland and based in Los Angeles. &nbsp;Her 2021 short film, \u201cAmericanized,\u201d screened at the Atlanta Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival and Cleveland International Film Festival, among others, and won 25 awards, including Best Dramatic Short at Cinequest, Best Short Film at the Bentonville Film Festival, the Young Cineastes Award at the Palm Springs International ShortFest and Best Narrative Short at the San Diego Asian Film Festival. &nbsp;Eng\u2019s short film, \u201cOff Fairfax,\u201d premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and received a Grand Jury Honorable Mention at the Slamdance Film Festival. &nbsp;Her latest film, \u201cThe Ghost,\u201d premiered on Disney+ as part of Disney\u2019s Launchpad shorts incubator program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/academy-gold\/about-gold\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/academy-gold\/about-gold\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academy Gold<\/a> global talent development and inclusion initiative, the Gold Fellowship for Women is a one-year program that combines direct support, personalized mentorship and access to once-in-a-lifetime networking opportunities for emerging women filmmakers to further their pursuits in the field. &nbsp;The Academy currently awards two fellowships annually, one in the U.S. and one internationally, each with a prize amount of $35,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chanel\u2019s support of the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women reflects the House\u2019s deep commitment to the art of film and dedication to nurturing the next generation of women filmmakers.
