Showmax has just released the trailer for Koek<\/em> and everyone wants a stukkie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Cape Town housewife Christelle Smit discovers evidence her husband is having an affair with a stripper named Candi Floss, her investigation takes her to a world poles apart from the Northern Suburbs utopia she knows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the story of a woman who has to lose everything in order to find herself,\u201d says SAFTA- and Silwerskerm-winning showrunner Christiaan Olwagen, whose previous series, Recipes for Love and Murder,<\/em> has now sold to more than 90 countries, and whose film Kanarie <\/em>was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film – Limited Release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cindy Swanepoel, who won SAFTA and Silwerskerm awards last year as Annelize in Binnelanders<\/em>, stars in Koek <\/em>as Christelle, with screen legend Sandra Prinsloo as the brandy-drinking, cigar-smoking, leopard-print-loving, and kidney-stealing mob boss she\u2019s soon in debt to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCindy delivers the performance of her life: she\u2019s beautiful, she\u2019s funny, she\u2019s sad, and she\u2019s sexy,\u201d says Christiaan. \u201cYou really feel for her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The admiration is mutual. \u201cI have also always wanted to do something involving Christiaan Olwagen and to play a leading role in a series that is so original, and different, and daring was such a massive privilege for me,\u201d says Cindy. \u201cIt’s something we haven’t seen in this country yet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crime comedy shot largely in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, including doubling Lush, an adult entertainment club, as the fictional Koeksusters. Lush gave the cast dance training and guidance to make Koeksusters feel as authentic as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trailer gives us first glimpses of the stacked cast, which includes Silwerskerm winners Stian Bam (The Story of Racheltjie de Beer<\/em>), Jacques Bessenger (Donkerbos<\/em>), Dawid Minnaar (Legacy<\/em>) and Carel Nel (Gaia<\/em>), as well as SAFTA nominees Ashley de Lange (G.I.L.<\/em>) and Vinette Ebrahim (Barakat, Skemerdans<\/em>). There\u2019s even a rare cameo from rapper Jack Parow, who also contributes new music to the soundtrack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSandra and Dawid usually play the upstanding nice guys, but they play bad really well,\u201d says director and DOP Johannes Pieter Nel. Nel won Best Cinematography at Silwerskerm last year for Die Tragiese Saak van Pamina Vermaak<\/em>, and also helmed Magda Louw, <\/em>which won Desir\u00e9 Gardner the award for Best Actor in a Comedy at the same awards. \u201cWe\u2019re putting well-known actors into fresh and risqu\u00e9 roles that are going to shock and amuse our audience; they\u2019re in for a treat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
