After <em>Spinners<\/em> became the first African series at Canneseries last year, next week <em>Catch Me A Killer <\/em>will become the first series entirely shot in South Africa in competition at Series Mania.\u201d Billed as \u201cEurope\u2019s biggest TV festival\u201d by <em>Variety<\/em>, Series Mania runs from 19-21 March in Lille, France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, South African Warren Gray recently won Best Production Design at the British Film Designers\u2019 Guild for his work recreating 90s South Africa. For context, other winners there included <em>Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning<\/em>,<em> Saltbur<\/em>n and <em>Silo<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abacus Media Rights has already sold <em>Catch Me A Killer<\/em> widely, with deals confirmed for BritBox North America, SBS Australia, UKTV\u2019s Alibi channel, AXN\u2019s Mystery Channel\/NHK Enterprises (NEP) in Japan, BBC First in Benelux and Poland and Cosmote TV Greece, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charlotte Hope, who played Myranda in <em>Game of Thrones<\/em> and headlined Starz\u2019s <em>The Spanish Princess<\/em> as Catherine of Aragon, stars in <em>Catch Me a Killer <\/em>as Micki Pistorius, South Africa\u2019s first-ever serial-killer profiler. <em>Catch Me A Killer <\/em>traces Pistorius\u2019 quest, as a newly-qualified forensic psychologist, to track down South Africa\u2019s most feared killers. He then escaped authorities in South Africa and Brazil for years, assuming three different identities and starting families with multiple women. After initially helping him escape, Thea slowly had to come to terms with her son being a killer. As she admits in the trailer, \u201cHe\u2019s capable of worse things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery 63 seconds a woman becomes a victim of gender-based violence in South Africa,\u201d says director John Gutierrez, whose debut feature <em>Sons of the Sea <\/em>was named Best South African Film at the Durban International Film Festival. \u201cBefore Andrea was murdered, she was hunted by Gerhard. So much so that it can longer be compared to Hollywood\u2026 Simply put, we are no longer followers but pioneers in our storytelling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAFTA nominee Nqobile Nunu Khumalo (<em>Nqobile, The Herd<\/em>) plays Lucy, with SAFTA winner Bonko Khoza (Mqhele in <em>The Wife<\/em>) as Napoleon Dingiswayo, nicknamed The Butcher of Soweto by the media. Thangevelo says their performances are \u201cmind-blowing.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Red Ink<\/em> is a partnership between Makholwa\u2019s Britespark Films and Bomb Productions.
