Actors Mamoudou Athie, Thora Birch, Jon Huertas and Q\u2019orianka Kilcher will appear in a live reading of selected scenes from 2023\u2019s five winning scripts at the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Awards and Live Read on April 25 at the Academy\u2019s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.\u00a0 The program will be hosted and directed by 2008 Nicholl fellow Eric Nazarian.<\/p>\n\n\n

Athie is an Emmy\u00ae-nominated actor who gave vocal performances in two 2023 animated feature films, \u201cElemental\u201d and \u201cThe Boy and the Heron.\u201d\u00a0 His upcoming projects include Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019s \u201cKinds of Kindness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birch is an actor and director known for her roles in \u201cGhost World\u201d and \u201cAmerican Beauty.\u201d\u00a0 She will appear in the AMC series \u201cMayfair Witches\u201d and the feature films \u201cThirsty\u201d and \u201cThe Midway Point.\u201d \u00a0Birch recently directed \u201cThe Gabby Petito Story\u201d for Lifetime and is set to make her feature directorial debut on \u201cMr. Paradise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huertas is an actor, director and producer who starred as Miguel Rivas on the NBC series \u201cThis Is Us.\u201d\u00a0 He also is known for his role as Detective Javier Esposito on the ABC series \u201cCastle,\u201d from Nicholl fellows Andrew W. Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller.\u00a0 Having directed episodic television, Huertas is soon to direct his first feature film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kilcher is an actor and producer who starred as Pocahontas in \u201cThe New World.\u201d \u00a0She recently appeared in \u201cDog\u201d and the Paramount Network series \u201cYellowstone.\u201d\u00a0 Kilcher\u2019s upcoming films include \u201cThe Life of Chuck,\u201d \u201cThe Unholy Trinity\u201d and \u201cYesteryear,\u201d which she also co-produced and co-wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nazarian is a director and screenwriter who won a Nicholl Fellowship in 2008 for his screenplay \u201cGiants.\u201d\u00a0 He co-wrote \u201cThree Christs,\u201d directed by Jon Avnet, starring Richard Gere and Peter Dinklage, and released by IFC Films.\u00a0 Nazarian currently is in post-production on \u201cDie Like a Man,\u201d which he wrote and directed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five screenwriters were selected from 5,599 entries as recipients of the 2023 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. \u00a0The fellows are (listed alphabetically by author):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Awards and Live Read to celebrate the 2023 fellows at the Academy\u2019s Samuel Goldwyn Theater on April 25 is free and open to the public, but advance tickets are required.\u00a0 Tickets may be obtained online here<\/a>.\u00a0 The Academy\u2019s Samuel Goldwyn Theater is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90211.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each individual will receive a fellowship and mentorship from an Academy member. The five fellowships are awarded with the understanding that recipients will complete feature-length screenplays during their fellowship year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
