After Spinners beat Succession in Shanghai, now it\u2019s Wyfie vs Wong Kar-Wai in Seou<\/strong>l<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

First it was Spinners <\/em>beating Succession<\/em> in Shanghai. Now Wyfie<\/em> is up against legendary Chinese auteur Wong Kar-Wai (In the Mood For Love, The Grandmaster<\/em>) and his multi-award-winning series Blossoms Shanghai<\/em> for Best International Series at The Seoul International Drama Awards on 25 September 2024. Homebrew Films\u2019 university-set telenovela will also be competing against Turkey\u2019s Another Love<\/em>, which won Best Telenovela at the prestigious Rose d\u2019Or Awards in London last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Returning to Showmax for another 45-episode season this Tuesday, 6 August 2024, Wyfie<\/em> follows four mismatched koshuis roommates, played by Be\u00e1ta Bena Green, Celeste Loots, Kristen Raath and Mienke Ehlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mia finally told her roommates everything in the emotional S1 finale. As S2 starts, it\u2019s the dawn of a new era in Pantera res, as Natasha (Elzet Nel from Trompoppie<\/em>) steps into power as prim. Parties abound, but not everyone is having a jol.<\/p>\n\n\n

2024 Naledi winner Cintaine Schutte in Wyfie S2<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

This season, look out for 2024 Naledi winner Cintaine Schutte (Fynskrif<\/em>) as Maggie, Shay\u2019s older crush, and Zandelle Meyer (Trompoppie<\/em>) as Jessie, the friends\u2019 new \u201chouse daughter\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Seoul nomination is the third in a row for Wyfie<\/em>. In Cannes in May this year, Wyfie <\/em>was up for Outstanding Use of Locations at the Global Production Awards, presented by Screen International, <\/em>losing out to Troll<\/em>, which had been Netflix\u2019s most popular non-English film of all time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the kykNET Silwerskerm Awards for Film and TV on 31 August 2024, Wyfie<\/em> is up for Best Actress (Bena Green), Best Newcomer (Ehlers) and Best Supporting Actor (Marguerite van Eeden) in a Telenovela or Soap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced by Homebrew Films (Trompoppie<\/em>), Wyfie<\/em> is directed by SAFTA winner Johan Cronj\u00e9 (Wonderlus<\/em>, N\u00earens, Noord-Kaap<\/em>), first-time director Eva du Preez (a Silwerskerm winner and two-time SAFTA nominee as an editor, with credits like Kanarie<\/em> and Trompoppie<\/em>) and rising star Emilie Badenhorst (2023 Silwerskerm Best Short Film and Best Direction winner \u2018n Doop om Stilte<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
