African streamer Showmax is in production on a South African adaptation of global hit format The Office<\/em>, licensed by BBC Studios<\/p>\n\n\n

The South African edition, to be called Die Kantoor<\/em>, is being\u00a0filmed primarily in Afrikaans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

kykNET will preview the first episode at 8PM on Sunday, 18 January, ahead of the Showmax double bill premiere on Tuesday, 20 January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was more than 20 years ago that the world was introduced to the wonderfully bleak mockumentary world of The Office<\/em>, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. MetaCritic<\/em> lists the original British version as the best-reviewed comedy series of all time, while the American version won five Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series, and was the most streamed show in the world in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This universal appeal has seen the BAFTA- and Golden Globe-winning cult comedy remade for audiences around the world, including Australia, France, Canada, Chile, Israel, India, the Middle East, and Poland. The South African version will be its 14th<\/sup> adaptation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rapid Blue, part of BBC Studios, is producing the Showmax Original, with BBC Studios handling global sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
