This year, 2 bursaries are on offer, supported in partnership with the Baxter Theatre Centre and Distell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The Bursary offers an emerging theatre director a mentor, a small<br \/>\nbudget, a month\u2019s rehearsal space and a week of performance at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective. It is recommended that directors work with already existing scripts as the month-long period has proved insufficient for devised work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Previous winners of this bursary include Amy<br \/>\nJephta, Tara Louise Notcutt, Asanda Phewa, Leopold Senekal, Pusetso Thibedi, Kim Kerfoot, Tsepo wa-Mamatu, Thando Doni, Nicola Elliott, Lidija Marelic and Khayelihle Dom Gumede.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u201cIt is so rare to have a space dedicated to one\u2019s growth as a young director, let alone one which provides the close support required to foster growth within individuals,\u201d said Khayelihle Dom Gumede, one of the 2012 winners. \u201cWith the bursary I was faced with a unique opportunity to immerse myself in the creative process and deal with the pragmatics of the production rather than extraneous elements\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">\u201cNow there aren\u2019t many spaces that can grant you that freedom to just do a show and also learn while working, because the bursary does not only teach you how to put up shows; but there are other aspects that are involved such as budgeting, casting, basically running a show on your own which is what the industry is like in<br \/>\nreality\u201d explained Thando Doni, another 2012 winner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The 2013 bursaries will run over two periods:<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><strong>Bursary 1:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>15<sup>th<\/sup> July \u2013 17<sup>th<\/sup> August 2013<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Bursary 2:\u00a028<sup>th<\/sup> October \u2013 30<sup>th<\/sup> November 2013<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The Bursary is specifically designed for emerging theatre directors who have had some experience in directing and whose passion is to have a career as a theatre director.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">If you are an emerging director and would like to grab this opportunity please submit: a 1-page creative proposal; your CV including 2 references with contact details; and indication of your preferred date to <strong>artsadmin@mweb.co.za<\/strong> by <strong>Friday 10<sup>th<\/sup> May 2013<\/strong>.
