On Sunday, it\u2019s Govan\u2019s turn to bring us the latest instalment on the hopelessness of current attempts at ending this internecine conflict. It\u2019s a heartbreaking and necessary story that is now all too familiar; one that, in time, will fall to someone else to tell.\u201d<\/em> <strong>&#8211; John Webb, Executive Producer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disaster in Nepal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, high in the Himalayan Mountains, part of a glacier collapsed, unleashing a wall of water, mud and debris that destroyed bridges, roads and hydropower projects. The death toll is at nearly 1,000, with thousands more reported missing \u2013 among them, six South Africans. As emergency responders are deployed to hunt for victims, Gift of the Givers prepares to join the efforts. Decades of poverty and segregation have entrenched gang violence on the Cape Flats. Gangs offer belonging and income \u2013 but ongoing turf wars hold surrounding communities hostage. Five months ago, national government deployed the army to help combat gang violence. But has anything changed on the ground? Others are lost \u2013 their remains untraceable, their families left searching. As the death toll climbs, so do the stakes of a human trafficking investigation set against the backdrop of deepening military ties between South Africa and Russia.
