{"id":2756,"date":"2016-11-03T12:58:53","date_gmt":"2016-11-03T10:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/?p=2756"},"modified":"2016-11-03T12:59:37","modified_gmt":"2016-11-03T10:59:37","slug":"audiences-and-ratings-on-the-rise-for-tcm-powered-by-moives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2016\/11\/03\/audiences-and-ratings-on-the-rise-for-tcm-powered-by-moives\/","title":{"rendered":"Audiences And Ratings On The Rise For TCM, Powered By Moives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2757\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/TCM_AFRICA_2015.jpg?resize=300%2C132\" alt=\"tcm_africa_2015\" width=\"300\" height=\"132\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A strong performer in the general entertainment category within Turner\u2019s African footprint is its movie channel, TCM \u2013 Powered by Movies.<\/p>\n<p>Turner\u2019s all-American movie channel has emerged from its 2015 rebranding and repositioning as a strong contender among the movie channel offering on the DStv platform. \u2018Powered by Movies\u2019, the new pay-off line, is bearing fruit as the channel attracts a strong male audience (25 \u2013 45 age group) that enjoys modern blockbusters and the monthly themed promotional blocks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the channel continues to perform on the DStv Premium and family packages, we are pleased to announce TCM\u2019s expansion to all DStv packages, including both the Access and Easy View options, from this month,\u201d states Pierre Branco, Vice-President of Southern Europe and General Manager of Africa for Turner. \u201cBeing able to reach a wider DStv audience gives us a further opportunity to entrench the channel\u2019s revised brand positioning and grow our ratings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The channel has increased its ratings 32% YoY and achieved 37% market share, with the average daily time spent watching the channel up 5% to 57 minutes per day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTCM attracts a strong male audience skew, up to 63% in September from 56% in August, which is a positive indication that our target audience loves the new-look channel and the exciting line-up of Hollywood blockbusters that we broadcast on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the channels\u2019 top-performing titles over the past few months include \u2018The Fast and Furious\u2019 in June, \u2018The Mummy\u2019 in August and \u2018Blood Diamond\u2019 in September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMovies fans have a feast of exclusive titles to look forward to as we head into the holiday season and the new year, with a Spielberg festival in December, and new titles including \u2018Underworld\u2019, \u2018We Were Soldiers\u2019 and \u2018K-19\u2019,\u201d comments Branco.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking forward to showcasing Turner\u2019s general entertainment offering, including TCM, at our stand (S53) at Discop, as we look to increase our presence across platforms and territories on the continent.
