Castro’s longstanding support for Africa’s liberation movements made him a hero in the eyes of many here at home. As President Zuma travels to Cuba to attend Castro’s funeral, Carte Blanche asks—how has our friendship with Cuba’s radical leader shaped post-apartheid South Africa and how will his death impact our foreign policies in Latin America?

Producer: Johann Botha
Presenter: Claire Mawisa

Epigenetic Autism Cure

Autism is a disorder that causes suffering for millions of people, young and old. But in a promising breakthrough, scientists have found that this disorder is linked to the inadequate expression of a gene called Shank3. Carte Blanche meets the remarkable minds behind the astonishing medical technology capable of switching the gene back on and reversing the symptoms of this condition. In 2015 they set a world record by swimming in the highest and coldest water in the world—in the Andes at 5909 metres above sea level, in hypothermic conditions. Now the team of swimmers have taken on their maddest and most dangerous swim for charity yet—17km across the Dead Sea where extreme salt content makes a gruelling swim, near impossible. Carte Blanche witnesses history in the making as so-called Madswimmers from Israel, New Zealand, Jordan, Palestine and South Africa brave the lowest lying body of water on earth.
Producer: Diana Lucas

Line-ups are subject to change.
