The announcement was made today by Sue Kroll, President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.<\/p>\n<p>Audiences everywhere have flocked to theatres, eager to experience the new era in the wizarding world created by J.K. Rowling. To date, the film has earned $161 million domestically and $344 million internationally for a global box office cume of $505 million and counting. \u201cFantastic Beasts,\u201d which is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, has also received praise from critics everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>In making the announcement, Kroll stated, \u201cWe are thrilled by the success of this new adventure, which is also the start of an exciting new franchise for the studio. With \u2018Fantastic Beasts,\u2019 the brilliant J.K. Rowling has created an immersive story with timeless themes that are resonating with both critics and audiences in every corner of the world. We, too, foresee strong holds through the holidays and well into the new year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them\u201d takes us to a new era in J.K. Rowling\u2019s Wizarding World, decades before Harry Potter and half a world away.<\/p>\n<p>Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne (\u201cThe Theory of Everything\u201d) stars in the central role of wizarding world Magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four \u201cHarry Potter\u201d blockbusters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them\u201d opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident\u2026were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt\u2019s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them\u201d also stars Katherine Waterston (\u201cSteve Jobs,\u201d \u201cInherent Vice\u201d), Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (\u201cThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee\u201d), Alison Sudol (\u201cDig,\u201d \u201cTransparent\u201d), Ezra Miller (\u201cTrainwreck,\u201d upcoming \u201cJustice League\u201d), two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (\u201cIn America,\u201d \u201cSweet and Lowdown\u201d), Oscar winner Jon Voight (\u201cComing Home,\u201d TV\u2019s \u201cRay Donovan\u201d), Carmen Ejogo (\u201cSelma\u201d), and Colin Farrell (\u201cTrue Detective\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>The film marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, whose beloved Harry Potter books were adapted into the top-grossing film franchise of all time. Her script was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by her character Newt Scamander.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Yates, the film reunited a number of people from the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d features, including producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram. Tim Lewis, Neil Blair and Rick Senat served as executive producers.<\/p>\n<p>Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films Production, a David Yates Film, \u201cFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.\u201d The film opened worldwide on November 18, 2016, in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX and is being distributed by Warner Bros.
