Simmons. About an accountant who is a mathematics savant, afflicted with Asperger Syndrome. While he is uncooking the books for a new client, the Treasury Department is closing in on his activities.

We’re treated to a side-plot of coping with Asperger. Syndrome (AS), as Christian (Ben Afleck) had to cope growing up, with the help of his younger brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal).

Christian is bombarded by stimuli, pushing his AS to the limit. He encounters Dana Cummings (Anna Kendrick) along the way, and trying to keep her out of danger, and a chanced meeting from his past in the form of treasury agent Ray King (J.K. Simmons). Christian is bombarded by stimuli, pushing his AS to the limit, with obstacles at each turn.

Rewatch value on this feature is high for the action scenes, which are expertly choreographed, detailing Christian’s obsessive attention to detail. While the few smaller plot twists do have some of the excitement taken away on subsequent views, the film is still enjoyable.

Read the full SAMDB review of The Accountant.

Disc

Overall, the disc is of a good technical quality. The main feature is good, but bonus features are almost non-existent.

The Accountant is availale now, to purchse on disc, in South Africa.

Video

Video is encoded at a high average bitrate. There are no visible artefacts on screen. Colours are vibrant, with no bleed. Darker scenes maintain a decent amount of detail.

Viewers with the relevant hardware or software could scale up to a larger or higher resolution screen, should they wish.

Audio

Audio is encoded at a decent average bitrate. Dialogue is clear via the centre speaker, if a little low in volume at times, but this seems to apply to all channels. Use of the surrounds adds a lot of life to scenes, especially the several action sequences, and further draws the viewer into the action.

Navigation

Navigation is simple, but easy to follow. The main menu background is a static image, with music. Buttons to the sub-menus are large with text labels.

Bonus Features

Inside The Man – A ten minute look at the character of Christian Wolff, and all the research carried out by Ben Afleck to learn about all the nuances needed. There is input from the rest of the cast, and some crew, about how they set about creating the world for Wolff, and how the interaction of the various characters was achieved.

An interesting insight into the work that actors should be doing for each role they undertake, and a good look at all the hard work it took to create The Accountant.

<iframe loading="lazy" title="The Accountant – Main Trailer - Official Warner Bros.
