The Voice SA\u2019s four esteemed coaches \u2013 Karen Zoid, Lira, Bobby van Jaarsveld and Kahn Morbee – have assembled strong teams of 12 vocalists over the past seven weeks during the show\u2019s Blind Auditions. Now, they have to up the ante in the show\u2019s fierce Battle Rounds.<\/p>\n
From this week Sunday (2 April) the coaches will pair up their team members to fight it out in order to stay in the competition. The talent will have to step into the boxing ring-styled stage and literally battle against each other vocally, singing the same song together. And as coach Bobby van Jaarsveld points out, \u201cIt\u2019s not a duet, it\u2019s a battle!\u201d Thereafter, it is up to their coach to determine which one of them will advance to the next round, and which one of them will end their Voice SA journey there and then.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis part of the The Voice SA is extremely stressful and emotional – for the coaches and singers alike,\u201d says M\u2013Net\u2019s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. \u201cFirst the coaches have to make the difficult decision of deciding which vocalists to pit against each other, and then they have to choose between the two deserving individuals whom they spend plenty of time with to get them in tip-top form for this round. It\u2019s not easy! And, to add to the drama, each of the coaches has the opportunity to steal two singers from other teams if that singer\u2019s coach decides to let them go.\u201d<\/p>\n
During this phase of series, each coach is also joined by a co-coach to assist them in mentoring the talent with intensive vocal training as well as performance coaching. Riana Nel follows in her sister Nianell\u2019s footsteps from Season 1 as she reports for duty on #TeamLira, Emo Adams joins his long-time friend and fellow TV show host Karen Zoid, young pop star Jimmy Nevis signs up for #TeamBobby and Elvis Blue joins Kahn Morbee to give his talent a guiding hand.<\/p>\n
There will be a total of six Battles this week, with the coaches having picked a wide range of songs for their Battle pairs to perform. From Coldplay to Beyonce and Fleetwood Mac to Maroon 5, the singers will be pushed to their limits to do their Battle songs justice, while showing off the best that their vocal ranges have to offer. But who will the coaches pair up against each other?<\/p>\n
One of the Battles that viewers can look forward to is between two very different female performers on #TeamLira, namely Al Petersen and Jacqueline Tolken.<\/p>\n
Al\u2019s Blind audition of the Bob Marley and Lauren Hill love song \u201cTurns Your Light Down Low\u201d got her a chair turn from coach Lira who appreciated the sincerity of her performance, while Jacqueline\u2019s rendition of Fleetwood Mac\u2019s \u201cDreams\u201d earned her a full house of coaches\u2019 turns with Karen telling her that she belongs on the international stage. What song will Lira give these fierce competitors to perform? And will they rise to the occasion or buckle under the pressure of the Battle ring?<\/p>\n
