{"id":4331,"date":"2017-06-11T20:52:18","date_gmt":"2017-06-11T18:52:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/?p=4331"},"modified":"2017-06-11T20:52:18","modified_gmt":"2017-06-11T18:52:18","slug":"the-voice-sa-top-8-becomes-top-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2017\/06\/11\/the-voice-sa-top-8-becomes-top-7\/","title":{"rendered":"The Voice SA : Top 8 Becomes Top 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sad goodbye for Tender Mavundla<\/p>\n<p>#TeamLira\u2019s\u2019s Tender Mavundla had to bid a sad farewell to The Voice South Africa Season 2 tonight [Sunday, 11 June] after she had received the fewest votes from the viewing public in this week\u2019s Top 8 vote.<\/p>\n<p>Tender\u2019s blistering rendition of Brenda Fassie\u2019s \u201cVulindlela\u201d earned her three out of four coach turns in the initial Blind auditions of the competition and a spot on #TeamLira. She was the first of Lira\u2019s singers to proceed through to the Knock-Out rounds, and in the second Live Showstopper show on 29 May, Lira chose Tender as her final Coach\u2019s Save for her performance of the Tina Turner classic, \u201cProud Mary\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>But now, with no more saves left to the Coaches, it is solely up to the fans to decide every week which singers deserve one more chance, and who has to go. This week the Top 7 performed an eclectic mix of songs from different decades to sing their way into the viewers\u2019 hearts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#TeamBobby<\/strong>\u2019s Caroline Brussow (32) from Bloemfontein kicked the show off channeling her inner Adele with \u201cRolling In The Deep\u201d. Lira thought it was a professional performance but cautioned Caroline Grace to always try to select songs that will show her ability off. Kahn Morbee agreed that it looked like Caroline had been doing professional shows for years, and her Coach Bobby van Jaarsveld commended his prot\u00e9g\u00e9 on her effort, because Adele songs are notoriously difficult, he noted.<br \/>\n<strong>Carole Grace\u2019s voting number is 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PJ Pretorius from Secunda (26) was up next, representing <strong>#TeamKaren<\/strong> with the Ed Sheeran ballad \u201cPhotograph\u201d. \u201cAs you can hear, the audience loved it, \u201cKahn noted, \u201cand I think sometimes that says more than I can say.\u201d Bobby agreed: \u201cFrom their side they really like you a lot, and from our side, we think you\u2019re an awesome guy,\u201d he told PJ. And Coach Karen said PJ is a \u201ctrue troubadour\u201d, who breaks people\u2019s hearts when he sings. \u201cIt\u2019s effortless,\u201d she marveled.<br \/>\n<strong>PJ\u2019s voting number is 07.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bela Bela\u2019s Fatman from <strong>#TeamKahn<\/strong> kept his choice local, lekker, and very close to home with coach Karen Zoid\u2019s ballad \u201cAs Musiek Begin Speel\u201d. Karen thanked him for singing a song that was very close to her heart. \u201cYou are that person, in the song, who keeps singing,\u201d she said. \u201cI really think you did a stellar job,\u201d Lira said, and commended Fatman for picking an Afrikaans song. \u201cIt\u2019s a huge market and you cannot ignore it,\u201d she pointed out. \u201cYou\u2019ve known from the minute you did your first song exactly who are you are as an artist, and that\u2019s very important.\u201d said proud Coach Kahn Morbee.<br \/>\n<strong>Fatman\u2019s voting number is 02.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>#TeamLira<\/strong>\u2019s Luke Lovemore (23) from Cape Town took the show in a slightly alternative direction with the Rag \u2018n Bone Man chart-topper, \u201cHuman\u201d. \u201cFlip, that was amazing!\u201d said Coach Bobby and Karen agreed. \u201cYou old rock \u2018n roller, you!\u201d she grinned. \u201cWhen he\u2019s a little bit \u2018bad\u2019, he\u2019s so good!\u201d she teased. And his Coach Lira thanked her prot\u00e9g\u00e9 for taking direction so well and always improving, week by week.<br \/>\n<strong>Luke\u2019s voting number is 10.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>#TeamBobby<\/strong>\u2019s musical theatre veteran Josh Ansley (31) from Johannesburg serenaded his fans with the timeless old Otis Redding classic, \u201cWhen a Man Loves a Woman\u201d. Lira revealed that she had pulled Josh aside this week and encouraged him to choose a ballad that would show his vulnerability, \u201cand you did it! That was amazing!\u201d she raved. Kahn urged Josh not to choose the safe route of theatre or being a cover artist. \u201cI want you to promise to be brave, to have the conviction to establish yourself as an original artist,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we can\u2019t wait to hear your own songs,\u201d Bobby added.<br \/>\n<strong>Josh\u2019s voting number is 15.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For <strong>#TeamKaren<\/strong>, Kimberly\u2019s Samantha Leonard (24) took on the challenge of the massive Queen anthem from the Eighties, \u201cI Want It All\u201d. \u201cThat was true rock \u2018n roll style!\u201d said Bobby. \u201cAnd then you still looked classy doing too!\u201d Kahn said it felt like he was watching a really expensive production by someone like Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, and a proud Coach Karen pointed out that unlike those divas, humble Sam still carries her own PA equipment to all of her performances.<br \/>\n<strong>Sam\u2019s voting number is 08.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And to close the show, <strong>#TeamKahn<\/strong> talent Craig Lucas (23) from Cape Town showed off his falsetto range with Harry Styles\u2019 latest single, \u201cSign of the Times\u201d. Karen thought he sounded like an international star. Lira noted that she loves Craig\u2019s song choices. \u201cThrough your song choices you\u2019ve earned the love that I have for you right now,\u201d she said and she hoped that he would not be pulled off-track, creatively. \u201cDo you, boo,\u201d she cautioned. \u201cBe true to yourself.\u201d Kahn said Craig has that special quality the French call \u201cje ne sais quoi\u201d.<br \/>\n<strong>Craig\u2019s voting number is 01.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Voting for the Top 7 opened at the end of the show and will close on Tuesday, 13 June at 22:00.
