They have a long way to go, however, as another group of 5 contestant pairs from around the country are patiently waiting for their turn to showcase their culinary chops in the same process, before the 8 pairs of highest achievers from each group move on to the MKR Kitchen HQ in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off the series last week were Bloem Besties Liz and Leanne, and despite a lot of teary emotions on their part, these ladies\u2019 fierce competitive spirit pulled them through and earned them an impressive score of 69 out of 100 from their fellow home cook competitors and the judges. They set the tone for the season by drawing inspiration from their farm roots, preparing starters and mains that focused on locally-sourced beef and venison delicacies and a traditional Afrikaans \u201cmelktert\u201d dessert with a modern twist including salted bourbon caramel popcorn!<\/p>\n<p>With the bar having been set high in the City of Roses, this week will see self-confessed \u201cfood dudes\u201d, water polo buddies Rein and Rowan from Krugersdorp \u2013 or \u201cKrugerfornia\u201d as they like to call it \u2013 trying to beat Liz and Leanne\u2019s score and take the lead in the competition. \u201cTwo boys that enter potjie competitions is probably what people will think when they see us,\u201d Rein has remarked, but can their looks be deceiving? Their fellow competitors will undoubtedly be expecting a more rugged, hearty spread this week, but could Rein and Rowan surprise them with some finesse and a delicate touch?<\/p>\n<p>My Kitchen Rules SA is broadcast on M-Net channel 101 every Sunday night at 18:00.
