The third annual Johannesburg Italian Film Festival (JIFF) takes place at Cinema Nouveau Rosebank \u2013 FREE ENTRY<\/strong><\/p>\n

JIFF will run from 10 \u2013 12 November 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ster-Kinekor Nouveau enthusiasts will get a taste of Italy at the Johannesburg Italian Film Festival (JIFF), which will run from 10 \u2013 12 November 2017. Acclaimed Italian actor, Raoul Bova, will visit South Africa for this much-anticipated festival.<\/p>\n

The third annual Johannesburg Italian Film Festival (JIFF), which is held under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Johannesburg, returns to Rosebank Cinema Nouveau from 10-12 November. \u201cThe main purpose of the annual JIFF, is to create a platform through which to celebrate the joy and magic of Italy\u2019s big screen,\u201d says Claudio Coci, President of the CCIS and curator of the festival. \u201cItaly has a very long, rich and influential cinematic history and JIFF, which is a free festival, aims to share this with an enthusiastic South African film-loving public,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

This year, the festival features the films of acclaimed actor Raoul Bova, who is known to a broader<\/p>\n

audience thanks to mainstream Hollywood films such as Under the Tuscan Sun, All Roads Lead to<\/p>\n

Rome and The Tourist. Bova will be travelling to Johannesburg to open the festival at an invitation only, gala evening on 9 November 2017.<\/p>\n

JIFF takes place at Cinema Nouveau Rosebank and entry is free. The schedule includes the following Italian films, all of which feature Raoul Bova:<\/p>\n

\nA young married couple whose relationship is hitting the rocks take in an old man struggling to remember his past. Io l\u2019Altro \/ Me the Other: Friday, 10 Nov 2017 at 5:30 pm<\/strong>
\nGiuseppe (Raoul Bova), a Sicilian fisherman, and Yousef (Giovanni Martorana), an exiled Tunisian, share a friendship, a fishing business and ‘Medea’ the vessel on which they ply their trade. While at sea Giuseppe hears a radio broadcast about a wanted terrorist with Yousef\u2019s name and in a fit of paranoia locks his friend up in the ship’s cabin. A gripping and claustrophobic thriller set at sea that plays with the fears of the post-9\/11 generation.<\/p>\n

\nA documentary drama based on a true story. After his son dies from an ecstasy overdose, a well-known TV journalist decides to follow the drug squad in their fight against drug trafficking in Milan. Filmed in a verite style the movie follows this grieving parent on a journey into the dangerous Italian underworld.<\/p>\n

I Siciliani \/ The Sicilians: Saturday, 11 November 2017 at 5:30pm<\/strong>
\nA documentary film by Francesco Lama that looks at the complex identity of the people of Sicily. Seeking to move beyond the indifference to corruption, mafia and other problems that have marred the island, Lama’s film instead highlights the traditions, food and rich multi-cultural heritage that make Sicily one of the Mediterranean’s most compelling destinations.<\/p>\n
