Ninety-two films had originally been considered in the category.<\/p>\n<p>The films, listed in alphabetical order by country, are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chile, \u201cA Fantastic Woman,\u201d Sebasti\u00e1n Lelio, director;<\/li>\n<li>Germany, \u201cIn the Fade,\u201d Fatih Akin, director;<\/li>\n<li>Hungary, \u201cOn Body and Soul,\u201d Ildik\u00f3 Enyedi, director;<\/li>\n<li>Israel, \u201cFoxtrot,\u201d Samuel Maoz, director;<\/li>\n<li>Lebanon, \u201cThe Insult,\u201d Ziad Doueiri, director;<\/li>\n<li>Russia, \u201cLoveless,\u201d Andrey Zvyagintsev, director;<\/li>\n<li>Senegal, \u201cF\u00e9licit\u00e9,\u201d Alain Gomis, director;<\/li>\n<li>South Africa, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2017\/12\/16\/south-africas-inxeba-shortlisted-for-academy-awards-best-foreign-film\/\">The Wound<\/a>,\u201d John Trengove, director;<\/li>\n<li>Sweden, \u201cThe Square,\u201d Ruben \u00d6stlund, director.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Foreign Language Film nominations for 2017 are determined in two phases.<\/p>\n<p>The Phase I committee, consisting of Los Angeles-based Academy members, screened the original submissions in the category between mid-October and December 11. The group\u2019s top six choices, augmented by three additional selections voted by the Academy\u2019s Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee, constitute the shortlist.<\/p>\n<p>Academy members eligible to participate in the Nominations round of voting in New York, London, Los Angeles and, for the first time, the San Francisco Bay Area, will screen the nine shortlisted films in theaters over a three-day period from Friday, January 12, through Sunday, January 14, with three films screening each day. Additionally, international members (who live outside of the U.K.) will be invited to opt-in to stream the nine shortlisted films on the Academy\u2019s member site. Members must see all nine films before casting their ballots.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations for the 90th Academy Awards\u00ae will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The 90th Oscars\u00ae will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre\u00ae at Hollywood &amp; Highland Center\u00ae in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 6:30 p.m. ET\/3:30 p.m. PT.
