The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present Honorary Awards to Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and Piero Tosi, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Angelina Jolie.\u00a0 All four awards will be presented at the Academy\u2019s 5th Annual Governors Awards on Saturday, November 16, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center\u00ae.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who\u2019ve made indelible contributions in their respective fields,\u201d said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. \u00a0\u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more excited for this year\u2019s honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lansbury has received three Academy Award\u00ae nominations for her supporting performances on film \u2013 the first in her 1944 feature debut in \u201cGaslight,\u201d followed by \u201cThe Picture of Dorian Gray\u201d (1945) and \u201cThe Manchurian Candidate\u201d (1962).\u00a0 Her numerous other credits include \u201cThe Long, Hot Summer,\u201d \u201cBlue Hawaii,\u201d \u201cThe World of Henry Orient,\u201d \u201cBedknobs and Broomsticks,\u201d \u201cDeath on the Nile\u201d and \u201cMr. Popper\u2019s Penguins,\u201d as well as voice work for the first animated feature to receive a Best Picture nomination, \u201cBeauty and the Beast.\u201d<\/p>\n
Martin, who got his start in television, is a versatile actor, writer, comedian and musician who began to display the breadth of his big-screen talent as the screenwriter and star of the 1977 Oscar\u00ae-nominated short film \u201cThe Absent-Minded Waiter.\u201d\u00a0 He wrote and starred in \u201cThe Jerk,\u201d \u201cDead Men Don\u2019t Wear Plaid,\u201d \u201cThree Amigos,\u201d \u201cRoxanne,\u201d \u201cL.A. Story,\u201d \u201cThe Pink Panther\u201d series and \u201cShopgirl,\u201d which he adapted from his critically acclaimed book of the same name.\u00a0 His other acting credits include \u201cAll of Me,\u201d \u201cParenthood,\u201d \u201cFather of the Bride\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s Complicated.\u201d\u00a0 He also is a three-time host of the Oscars\u00ae, most recently in 2010 with Alec Baldwin.<\/p>\n
Tosi rose to prominence through his collaborations with Italian director Luchino Visconti on such films as \u201cWhite Nights\u201d and \u201cRocco and His Brothers,\u201d and continued to work with him on several other features, including the Costume Design nominees \u201cThe Leopard,\u201d \u201cDeath in Venice\u201d and \u201cLudwig.\u201d \u00a0Tosi received two more nominations for his designs for \u201cLa Cage aux Folles\u201d and \u201cLa Traviata.\u201d \u00a0His other notable credits include \u201cYesterday, Today and Tomorrow,\u201d a Foreign Language Film winner, and \u201cMarriage Italian Style,\u201d a Foreign Language Film nominee, both directed by Vittorio De Sica.<\/p>\n
Jolie, who won an Oscar for her supporting performance in \u201cGirl, Interrupted,\u201d has been an impassioned advocate for humanitarian causes, traveling widely to promote organizations and social justice efforts such as the Prevent Sexual Violence Initiative. \u00a0Staking out a career at the nexus of entertainment and philanthropy, Jolie has worked for a number of global advocacy groups including the Council on Foreign Relations and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), for which she was appointed Special Envoy of High Commissioner Ant\u00f3nio Guterres in 2012 after twelve years of service. \u00a0Her dedication to these causes has also shaped her work in films that tackle global humanitarian issues including \u201cA Mighty Heart\u201d and her feature film directorial debut \u201cIn the Land of Blood and Honey.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Honorary Award, an Oscar statuette, is given \u201cto honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.\u201d<\/p>\n
