{"id":597,"date":"2013-09-06T14:32:12","date_gmt":"2013-09-06T12:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/?p=597"},"modified":"2013-09-06T14:32:12","modified_gmt":"2013-09-06T12:32:12","slug":"angelina-jolie-angela-lansbury-steve-martin-and-piero-tosi-to-receive-the-academys-governors-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2013\/09\/06\/angelina-jolie-angela-lansbury-steve-martin-and-piero-tosi-to-receive-the-academys-governors-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Angelina Jolie, Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin And Piero Tosi To Receive The Academy&#8217;s Governors Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present Honorary Awards to Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and Piero Tosi, and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Angelina Jolie.\u00a0 All four awards will be presented at the Academy\u2019s 5th Annual Governors Awards on Saturday, November 16, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood &amp; Highland Center\u00ae.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who\u2019ve made indelible contributions in their respective fields,\u201d said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. \u00a0\u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more excited for this year\u2019s honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lansbury has received three Academy Award\u00ae nominations for her supporting performances on film \u2013 the first in her 1944 feature debut in \u201cGaslight,\u201d followed by \u201cThe Picture of Dorian Gray\u201d (1945) and \u201cThe Manchurian Candidate\u201d (1962).\u00a0 Her numerous other credits include \u201cThe Long, Hot Summer,\u201d \u201cBlue Hawaii,\u201d \u201cThe World of Henry Orient,\u201d \u201cBedknobs and Broomsticks,\u201d \u201cDeath on the Nile\u201d and \u201cMr. Popper\u2019s Penguins,\u201d as well as voice work for the first animated feature to receive a Best Picture nomination, \u201cBeauty and the Beast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin, who got his start in television, is a versatile actor, writer, comedian and musician who began to display the breadth of his big-screen talent as the screenwriter and star of the 1977 Oscar\u00ae-nominated short film \u201cThe Absent-Minded Waiter.\u201d\u00a0 He wrote and starred in \u201cThe Jerk,\u201d \u201cDead Men Don\u2019t Wear Plaid,\u201d \u201cThree Amigos,\u201d \u201cRoxanne,\u201d \u201cL.A.
