Opera lovers can look forward to a feast of melodic serenade in March 2018, more especially because South Africa\u2019s very own soprano songstress, Pretty Yende will star in L\u2019Elisir d\u2019Amore, exclusively at Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau on the 10th of March 2018. That\u2019s not the only treat, it will be followed by La Boh\u00e8me that releases on 24 March 2018.<\/p>\n

South Africa\u2019s very own Pretty Yende debuts a new role at the Met as the spirited Adina opposite Matthew Polenzani. Bartlett Sher\u2019s production is charming, with deft comedic timing, but also emotionally revealing.\u00a0 L\u2019Elisir d\u2019Amore has been among the most consistently popular operatic comedies for almost two centuries. The story deftly combines comic archetypes with a degree of genuine character development rare in works of this type. Its ending is as much a foregone conclusion as it would be in a romantic comedy film today\u2014the joy is in the journey, and Donizetti created one of his most instantly appealing scores for this ride.<\/p>\n

Audiences can also see the Met\u2019s new stagings of Puccini\u2019s Tosca, starring Sonya Yoncheva and Vittorio Grigolo, and Mozart\u2019s Cos\u00ec fan tutte set in the 1950s in Coney Island, with an ensemble cast including Tony Award\u2013winner Kelli O\u2019Hara. The season, as mentioned above, also features Donizetti\u2019s L\u2019Elisir d\u2019Amore, starring South African born Pretty Yende in her first Met performances as the spirited Adina with Matthew Polenzani reprising Nemorino, and Puccini\u2019s La Boh\u00e8me featuring Sonya Yoncheva and Michael Fabiano as the young Parisian lovers, Mim\u00ec and Rodolfo.<\/p>\n
