For the launch of this exciting documentary stream, starring from April 16th, film fans can watch the powerful Ethiopian film Omo Child, followed on April 23rd with the story of the women of Marikana, those left behind after the massacre in 2012.\u00a0 Strike a Rock follows two South African mothers and best friends, Primrose Sonti and Thumeka Magwangqana who lead the community as they continue to fight for justice.<\/p>\n

In honour of Freedom Day \u2013 April 27th, AfriDocs on Channel24 will present Have You Heard From Johannesburg: Oliver Tambo, the recently released biopic of the often overlooked struggle hero. With previously unseen footage, interviews with those closest to Tambo, and in his own words, the film is a moving tribute to one of the founders of our democracy.<\/p>\n

In Ethiopia\u2019s Omo Valley, children are being killed horrifically under an ancient tradition known as \u2018mingi\u2019. Teeth growing in a certain order can bring a child a death sentence. One young tribesman strives for change through education and adopting the cursed children. But challenging tribal superstition isn\u2019t easy and as he battles to save lives, things are not all that they seem.<\/p>\n

Strike a Rock\u00a0| Aliki Saragas | South Africa, 2017 | 87 min<\/strong><\/p>\n

Strike A Rock is the story of two South African mothers and best friends, Primrose Sonti and Thumeka Magwangqana. They live in Nkaneng, Marikana, an informal settlement in rural South Africa that sprung up around a mine operated by Lonmin Plc, the third largest platinum extractor in the world. This company has significant legal obligation to the community that they mine under and around, but does not comply with all their responsibilities.<\/p>\n

This community became internationally known after the 2012 Marikana massacre, when 37 striking miners were killed by police. However, instead of improving, the living conditions that motivated the strike in the first place continue to worsen. And this is what Primrose and Thumeka are fighting against.<\/p>\n
