South Africa\u2019s public healthcare is desperately under-funded with serious staff shortages, collapsing infrastructure and it\u2019s\u00a0overburdened with patients. \u00a0Government believes that the proposed National Health Insurance Plan will be the panacea to saving a system in crisis. \u00a0While the details of the implementation of the NHI may be sketchy, a few things are certain \u2013 it is coming, it will be mandatory and the taxpayer will be paying for it. Carte Blanche analyses whether this plan really is the silver bullet.<\/p>\n

SAA’s executives say that unprofitable routes, inefficient planes and a bloated staff compliment are among the reasons for its financial woes.
