The hopefuls must have been channelling the spirit of their homegirl Paxton, last year’s youngest contestant and ultimate winner of Season 13.

It sure smelled like teen spirit at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World when the first Golden Ticket winner turned out to be a spunky and confident 16-year-old with plan. She was quickly followed by another teen whose busking experience saw him get the coveted ticket to Theatre Week.

It seemed there was no talent drought in Cape Town!

But it wouldn’t be Idols SA if everyone who set foot in the audition room was as vocally gifted as they think in the shower or in front of a mirror. The judges got their fair share of whimpers walking in. Some had drama in spades and others had the potential star look, but were empty in the vocal department. Guest judge, DJ Cleo, was ready to spot someone with the “C-Factor”.

“I’m looking for raw talent because I’m passionate about uprooting new artists. I’m looking for charm and what I call the ‘C-Factor’ because they will be a Cleo find,” he announced.

It might have been a long and gruelling day of auditions, but the DJ and Producer did get to have “wow” moments.

With three Golden Tickets handed out at the Telkom Pop Up audition in Bloemfontein, and 22 handed out in Cape Town, last night showed a good haul. Now it’s up to the contestants to prove who was there to stay. It’s officially on!

Idols SA season 14 is on Mzansi Magic, DStv Channel 161 on Sundays at 17h30.
