The film is playing in the \u2018Films in Thrill\u2019 section of the BFI London Film festival, described as \u2018nerve-shredders that\u2019ll get your adrenaline pumping and keep you on the edge of your seat\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>A festival that celebrates the global diversity of cinema, the line-up for this year\u2019s BFI London Film Festival includes high-profile titles from directors Luca Guadagnino, Ralph Fiennes and the Coen brothers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Mayfair\u2019 will also screen at this year\u2019s Africa in Motion (AiM), an annual African film festival taking place in Scotland, from 26 October to 4 November. Now in its twelfth year, AiM brings the best of African cinema to Scotland, making it possible for Scottish audiences to engage with African stories and industry professionals from the continent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted that \u2018Mayfair\u2019 has been selected to screen at these two important global film festivals,\u201d says Blecher.\u00a0 \u2018The BFI London Film Festival is the UK\u2019s most prestigious, representing one of the first opportunities for audiences to see the very best new films from around the globe. \u2018Mayfair\u2019 will be one of nine international premieres at the festival. It highlights the enormous wealth of talent working in film today and we are extremely proud to be part of the programme.\u00a0 AiM, meanwhile, is one of the leading African film platforms and caters to a varied and diverse audience from all over Scotland, the UK and further afield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Mayfair\u2019 tells the story of prodigal son Zaid Randera (Ronak Patani) who is fired from his job at a refugee camp and returns home to Mayfair in Johannesburg, where his overbearing father Aziz (Rajesh Gopie) \u2013 a businessman and occasional money launderer \u2013 is facing death threats.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7475\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/mayfair-3.jpg?resize=400%2C168\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/mayfair-3.jpg?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/mayfair-3.jpg?resize=300%2C126&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Zaid finds that everything at home has changed. The old neighbourhood is full of new immigrants with different ways of doing things. His father is in over his head as a result of a soured deal with ruthless Somalis. Zaid remains reluctant to become involved but when Faiza, his baby sister, is kidnapped after a failed cash drop to resolve the Somali deal, Zaid must decide how far he is prepared to go to protect his family.<\/p>\n<p>Patani is one of the UK&#8217;s brightest up and coming British Indian actors. Since entering the industry three years ago, he&#8217;s worked at the Royal National Theatre, and made his TV and Hollywood debuts.<\/p>\n<p>Rajesh Gopie is a Durban-born award-winning actor, actor-trainer and playwright. His film credits include \u2018Keeping Up with The Kandasammys\u2019, \u2018Hansie\u2019, \u2018The World Unseen\u2019, \u2018White Light\u2019, and \u2018Stellenbosch\u2019.
