{"id":7579,"date":"2018-09-16T18:34:10","date_gmt":"2018-09-16T16:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/?p=7579"},"modified":"2018-09-16T18:34:10","modified_gmt":"2018-09-16T16:34:10","slug":"academy-reveals-2018-student-academy-award-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/blog\/2018\/09\/16\/academy-reveals-2018-student-academy-award-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"Academy Reveals 2018 Student Academy Award\u00ae Winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2445\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.samdb.co.za\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/academylogo.jpg?resize=107%2C107\" alt=\"\" width=\"107\" height=\"107\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ALL WINNING FILMS NOW ELIGIBLE FOR OSCARS\u00ae<\/p>\n<p>The Academy has voted 19 students as winners of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oscars.org\/saa?_cldee=aW5mb0BzYW1kYi5jby56YQ%3d%3d&amp;recipientid=contact-52e80055e585e711810600505683369f-051fb3454bec4aabb48c7f6b7933b1a5&amp;esid=d5206491-b8b6-e811-80d1-005056a12e0a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Student Academy Awards\u00ae<\/a> 45th competition.\u00a0 This year, the Student Academy Awards competition received a total of 1,582 entries from 278 domestic and 122 international colleges and universities, which were voted upon by a record number of Academy members.\u00a0 The 2018 winners join the ranks of such past Student Academy Award winners as Patricia Cardoso, Pete Docter, Cary Fukunaga, John Lasseter, Spike Lee, Trey Parker, Patricia Riggen and Robert Zemeckis.<\/p>\n<p>The winners are (listed alphabetically by film title):<\/p>\n<h6>Alternative (Domestic Film Schools)<\/h6>\n<p>Shae Demandt, \u201cReanimated,\u201d Florida State University<\/p>\n<h6>Animation (Domestic Film Schools)<\/h6>\n<p>Yu Yu, \u201cDaisy,\u201d University of Southern California<br \/>\nHanna Kim, \u201cRaccoon and the Light,\u201d California Institute of the Arts<br \/>\nEaza Shukla, \u201cRe-Gifted,\u201d Ringling College of Art and Design<\/p>\n<h6>Animation (International Film Schools)<\/h6>\n<p>Pierre Perveyrie, Maximilien Bougeois, Marine Goalard, Irina Nguyen-Duc and Quentin Dubois, \u201cThe Green Bird,\u201d MOPA<\/p>\n<h6>Documentary (Domestic Film Schools)<\/h6>\n<p>Mathieu Faure, \u201cAn Edited Life,\u201d New York University<br \/>\nLauren Schwartzman, \u201cDust Rising,\u201d University of California, Berkeley<br \/>\nYiying Li, \u201cLove &amp; Loss,\u201d University of Southern California<\/p>\n<h6>Documentary (International Film Schools)<\/h6>\n<p>Mart Bira, \u201cNomadic Doctor,\u201d University of Hertfordshire<\/p>\n<h6>Narrative (Domestic Film Schools)<\/h6>\n<p>Brian Robau, \u201cEsta Es Tu Cuba\u201d\/\u201cThis Is Your Cuba,\u201d Chapman University<br \/>\nKelley Kali, \u201cLalo\u2019s House,\u201d University of Southern California<br \/>\nHua Tong, \u201cSpring Flower,\u201d University of Southern California<\/p>\n<h6>Narrative (International Film Schools)<\/h6>\n<p>Istv\u00e1n Kov\u00e1cs, \u201cA Siege,\u201d University of Theatre and Film Arts, Budapest<br \/>\nLisa Gertsch, \u201cAlmost Everything,\u201d Zurich University of the Arts<br \/>\nJonatan Etzler, \u201cGet Ready with Me,\u201d Stockholm Academy of the Arts<\/p>\n<p>First-time honors go to MOPA and the University of Hertfordshire.\u00a0 This year, the Student Academy Awards honors one returning winner in the Domestic Narrative category, Brian Robau, a Silver Medal winner in 2016 for \u201cIt\u2019s Just a Gun.\u201d Additionally, for the first time, a team of five directors is being honored in the International Animation category.\u00a0 Previously the limit had been two directors that could be honored per film.<\/p>\n<p>All Student Academy Award-winning films are eligible to compete for 2018 Oscars\u00ae in the Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film or Documentary Short Subject category.\u00a0 Past winners have gone on to receive 59 Oscar nominations and have won or shared 11 awards.
