Eighty-seven films had originally been considered in the category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los Angeles-based Academy members from all branches screened the original submissions in the category between mid-October and December 10.  The group\u2019s top six choices, augmented by three additional selections voted by the Academy\u2019s Foreign Language Film Award Executive Committee, constitute the shortlist.  Academy members eligible to participate in the Nominations round of voting will view the shortlisted films.  Members must see all nine films before casting their ballots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The films, listed in alphabetical order by country, are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Colombia, \u201cBirds of Passage\u201d<\/li><li>Denmark, \u201cThe Guilty\u201d<\/li><li>Germany, \u201cNever Look Away\u201d<\/li><li>Japan, \u201cShoplifters\u201d<\/li><li>Kazakhstan, \u201cAyka\u201d<\/li><li>Lebanon, \u201cCapernaum\u201d<\/li><li>Mexico, \u201cRoma\u201d<\/li><li>Poland, \u201cCold War\u201d<\/li><li>South Korea, \u201cBurning\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Seven films will advance in the Makeup and Hairstyling category for the 91st Academy Awards.  All members of the Academy\u2019s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films on Saturday, January 5, 2019.
