A video showing a group of youngsters kicking and dragging Thoriso Themane emerges, sending shockwaves throughout the country. Themane, a young man from Limpopo, never stood a chance against the group who beat him to death. But was this an isolated incident or the work of a violent gang of children? Carte Blanche investigates whether this is the same gang terrorising the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carte Blanche investigates the Lukhanyiso Food and Energy Centre in the Free State, which promised emerging farmers a shot at a sustainable future in agriculture and alternative power. Let down by their strategic partner and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, the project has been at a standstill, with little to show for the millions of Rands invested. But that didn\u2019t stop the Development Bank of Southern Africa from investing another R60 million in a bio-digester that\u2019s now a white elephant. We ask what went wrong with this flagship project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andr\u00e9 Schwartz \u2013 Hope for MND<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Top Afrikaans artist and leading stage performer of \u2018The Sound of Music\u2019 and \u2018Phantom of the Opera\u2019, Andr\u00e9 Schwartz was diagnosed with motor neuron disease last year. Now he\u2019s determined to give science a fighting chance as he embarks on a novel drug therapy that could slow the effects of the disease in its early stages. Edaravone, which is a disease-modifying treatment, previously used for stroke patients, has been approved by America\u2019s FDA as a treatment for MND, for the first time in over two decades. It is expensive and its long-term effects have not been proven, but could this drug provide hope for patients?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
