Our first arrival on the red carpet will set the scene for another must-watch season of The Bachelor SA.”

The lady in question is a vivacious, confident, kind and free-spirited 26-year-old Capetonian, Qiniso Van Damme. If you recognise her striking, picture-perfect features and broad smile, it might be from one of several big-brand advertising campaigns that have featured her in print, in retail stores or on television. Take note, though: Qiniso is not your typical model and actress. She’s a feminist and UCT Masters Student in Social Anthropology. No wonder she was named one of Cosmopolitan magazine’s next-generation African female leaders! And, if her surname rings a bell, it’s because her sister is an outspoken Member of Parliament.

Marc made it clear in radio interviews that he was looking for a gorgeous and strong, independent woman. Qiniso certainly fits the bill – and she ticks other important boxes on Marc’s wish list. She will be a great hiking and globe-trotting companion for a man who is always on the move. When Qiniso is not having the time of her life in front of the cameras, or immersed in her books, you’ll find her hiking on Table Mountain or cooking for friends. Health-conscious Marc should love the fact that she’s vegetarian and partial to Mediterranean, Asian and African cuisine.

Whatever they do will have an element of fun to it. Qiniso says she’s always up for a challenge, and when she describes her dream romantic date, it could have been Marc’s own words. “The fireplace is lit… we’re in a cabin in the Cederberg… warming our bodies after spending the day swimming in rock pools.”

The perfect match on paper? Perhaps. But will Marc and the kind, warm and intelligent Qiniso hit it off in the Bachelor Mansion? Only time will tell.

The Bachelor SA Season 2 will be screened on M-Net from Thursday, 13 February at 19:00.
