The World of Champions has acquired the award-winning \u201c30 for 30\u201d series, which SuperSport 1 has rolled out since Monday. There will be multiple broadcasts of each documentary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This precedes a major programming announcement to follow in the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced by US sport broadcaster ESPN, \u201c30 for 30\u201d is a popular series of documentaries that delves into the lives and events that shaped so much recent sporting history. The series touches on a variety of people and subjects with fresh insights and perspectives lending the films a grand quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the dozen offerings are \u201cOf Miracles and Men\u201d, \u201cChasing Tyson\u201d, \u201cSlaying the Badger\u201d, \u201cNature Boy\u201d and \u201cThis is What They Want\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOf Miracles and Men\u201d is the story of one of the greatest upsets in sports history: the night, 40 years ago, when a plucky band of American collegians stunned the vaunted Soviet national team 4-3 in the 1980 Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For fans of boxing, \u201cChasing Tyson\u201d recalls the time when Mike Tyson cast a commanding shadow over boxing in the 1980s and \u201990s, including his prison stint and his famed rivalry with Evander Holyfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNature Boy\u201d, meanwhile, examines the surreal world of professional wrestling, chiefly the truth-is-stranger-than-fiction life of Ric Flair. The film traces his epic career from the creation of his blond Adonis character, through the glory days of the NWA and The Four Horsemen, to his poignant last years in the ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set against the backdrop of the 1986 Tour de France, \u201cSlaying the Badger\u201d tells the story of Greg LeMond and his mentor Bernard \u201cThe Badger\u201d Hinault, who started as friends and teammates but ended up as bitter rivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also among the wide selection is \u201cThis is What They want\u201d, which tells the story of Jimmy Connors\u2019 career through the lens of the 1991 US Open, when Connors so famously played at the age of 39 and went all the way to the semi-finals before being stopped by Jim Courier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not just an examination of that tournament: it\u2019s a look at how Connors and his rivals re-invented tennis in the first decade of the Open era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
