October Gale (DVD): Review

The Film

We begin our journey with October Gale, where a mysterious man washes up on the shore at a remote cottage, in the middle of the night. Luck is on his side, and the sole occupant of this cottage, on an island, happens to be a doctor (Patricia Clarkson, as Helen).

Soon this man (Scott Speedman, as William), and Helen discover that they killer will soon be on his way to finish the job. They have little time to prepare, and no means to call for help, or escape.

That is the story of October Gale, yet it is by no means an action movie, and has only the slightest hint of a thriller. At its core, it is a romance, and a story about two people not only finding each other, and themselves, but finding their purpose and reason to continue. The two main characters have to dig deep, to learn to trust each other, forgive themselves, and to work together in order to survive the killer about to strike.

A thoroughly engrossing film, with a story that will have one reflect on one’s own life. October Gale bring together some amazing talent to tell a very emotional, and deep reaching story.

Disc And Bonus Features

As with nearly all discs these days, October Gale is encoded at a high bitrate, meaning there are no visible artefacts on screen, and for those viewing on screens of a higher resolution, it can be scaled via hardware or software.

Sound is presented in a 5.1 mix, with several scenes using this to great effect to expand the on-screen world, and draw the viewer further into the action.

There are unfortunately no additional features, other than some trailers at the beginning of the disc.

October Gale is now available to purchase on disc, in South Africa.
