Revolutionary ‘Lion’ In Cinemas This January

Opening nationally on 20 January 2017, Lion the real-life memoir titled “A Long Way Home”, is a true account of the heart felt story of Saroo Brierley’s journey to find his birth mother 20 years after he was accidently separated from her and his family.

Lion will take you through a journey that displays true perseverance. Hindi-speaking Sunny Pawar, aged eight, makes his big screen debut in the drama filled movie as young Saroo. Adult Saroo is played by well-acclaimed British actor Dev Patel, who you might know from films like Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi.

The film shows how young Saroo grows up in the impoverished central Indian town of Khandwa and struggles to help his mother and older brother make ends meet. We soon see the tragedy unfold as Saroo is separated from his family and is transported across India, confronting the unknown all alone, landing himself in an adoptive program and later being adopted by an Australian family. Nicole Kidman plays the role of Saroo’s adoptive mother, who was hand-picked by Sue Brierley [Saroo’s real-life adoptive mother]. We see Patel take over in the second half of the film as he sets out to find his hometown and real family as a grown man.

Directed by Australian filmmaker Garth Davis, the film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2016 and earned Patel a Golden Globe nomination for his superb acting in the film. The soundtrack to the movie is called “Never Give Up” which was written by Australian singer/song writer Sia.

The subtle and profound portrayal of this story makes Lion a true crowd-pleaser and when its emotional payoff comes full circle it will make even the most cynical filmgoer shed a tear.
