Revolutionary “Lion” In CInema’s This Friday

Opening nationally on 20 January 2017, Lion is a true account of the heart felt story of Saroo Brierley’s journey to find his birth mother 20 years after he was accidently separated from them.

Directed by Australian filmmaker Garth Davis, previously known for his work in ‘Top of the Lake’, Lion will take through a journey full of heart and perseverance. Hindi-speaking Sunny Pawar, aged eight, makes his big screen debut in the drama filled movie as young Saroo. Adult Saroo is played by well-acclaimed British actor Dev Patel, who you might know from films like Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi.

The film shows how young Saroo grows up in the impoverished central Indian town of Khandwa and struggles to help his mother and older brother make ends meet. We soon see the tragedy unfold with Patel taking over in the second half of the movie as he sets out to find his hometown after he is separated from his family.

The subtle and profound portrayal of this story makes Lion a true crowd-pleaser and when its emotional payoff comes full circle it will make even the most cynical filmgoer shed a tear.
