Agreement brings Turkish Super League to fans across Africa on ESPN and ESPN2
The Walt Disney Company Africa is pleased to announce that it has renewed its rights to broadcast the Turkish Super League (TSL) across the African continent, starting 11 September 2020, exclusively on ESPN and ESPN2, for an additional year.
The TSL is the Turkish professional league for association football clubs. Run by the Turkish Football Federation, it is the top tier of the Turkish football league system. The 2020/21 season comprises of 21 teams, as opposed to the usual 18, as the global coronavirus pandemic meant no teams were relegated last season from the Super Lig but three teams were promoted from the Turkish 1st Lig.
There are a number of African players plying their trade in the Super Lig including Morocco duo Younes Belhanda and Nabil Dirar, Ghanaian midfielder Afriyie Acquah and Senegalese striker Demba Ba.
Viewers can look forward to fan favourites Fenerbache, Galatasaray and Besiktas while reigning Champions Istanbul Basaksehir will look to defend their maiden Turkish Super Lig title when play kicks off this weekend. At least three games will air per weekend across the two ESPN channels (DSTV 219 and 219).
“By renewing these rights for Africa, ESPN is able to continue bringing premier sporting content to audiences and enhancing the diversity of programming on our channels,” says Evert van der Veer, Vice President, Media Networks, the Walt Disney Company Africa. “We are excited to continue bringing the excitement of this league to the many football fans across Africa.”
