Velvetblohm has been making waves in the music industry over the past few months with their unique shows and debut single.
Now this duo, which consists of the extremely gifted musicians Jan Blohm and Ryno Velvet, is back on everyone’s lips with their second release.
KAAP, a delicate contemporary rock song written by the artists themselves, mostly deals with a holiday romance and the sentiment that goes with it when it has to come to an end.
“The characters in KAAP share feelings of sadness and longing they are experiencing because of the distance between them, but also wish each other well,” they explain. “We wanted to approach the song from a storytelling perspective and that was the inspiration behind it – an uncomplicated story of disappointment, but also renewal.”
Just like with their previous release, Tussen Die Lyne which still features on several music charts, this captivating song was also produced by Tertius Human.
Although Blohm and Velvet toured together in 2006 and 2009, they only came up with the idea of launching an official Velvetblohm act at the end of 2021. With the help of Vonk Musiek’s Kobie Koen, what started out as a unique way of sharing their biggest hits with fans grew into an opportunity to record and release new material.
The duo looks forward to sharing more of their music with fans and plans on releasing their debut album soon.
When Jan is not on stage, he enjoys painting and sculpting. He is also the owner of Jan Blohm Art Gallery and Blohmhuis Theatre, as well as an online shop situated in Strand.
“Blohmhuis hosts intimate shows for visitors and artists, and it is such a privilege to realize this dream. I look forward to seeing it grow,” he says.
When he is not singing, Ryno is also a talented graphic designer, photographer and producer.
Hy shares: “This year, I have written and produced a lot of music. In addition to collaborating with Jan, I have also started working on a rock album with Fred den Hartog, Middelvinger and Albert Frost and am writing songs for various other artists.”
KAAP builds on the successful foundation established by these versatile men and makes you look forward to what they have planned for the future.
“The song is a relatable, bittersweet story that leaves something to the imagination – it is a recipe that not only entertains listeners, but also makes them think,” they conclude.

VelvetBlohm Se Tweede Enkelsnit Is Hier
Velvetblohm het oor die afgelope paar maande opslae gemaak met hulle unieke gesamentlike vertonings en eerste enkelsnit.
Nou is dié duo, wat bestaan uit die uiters begaafde musikante Jan Blohm en Ryno Velvet, weer op almal se lippe met die uitreiking van hulle tweede liedjie saam.
KAAP, ’n delikate kontemporêre rock-snit uit hulle eie pen, handel merendeels oor ’n vakansieromanse wat tot ’n einde kom en die sentiment wat daarmee gepaard gaan.
“Die karakters in KAAP deel hulle meegevoel en verlange oor die afstand tussen hulle, maar wens mekaar ook die beste toe,” deel hulle. “Ons wou die liedjie graag vanuit ’n storievertellersperspektief benader en dit was die inspirasie daaragter – ’n ongekompliseerde storie van teleurstelling, maar ook vernuwing.”
Net soos hulle vorige vrystelling, Tussen Die Lyne, wat nou nog op verskeie plaaslike treffersparades pronk is dié treffende lied ook deur Tertius Human vervaardig en beloof dit om die sukses van hulle vorige poging te oortref.
Alhoewel Blohm en Velvet reeds in 2006 en 2009 saam getoer het, het die idee vir ’n amptelike Velvetblohm-produksie eers aan die einde van 2021 posgevat toe hulle weer besluit het om saam op te tree. Wat begin het as ’n manier om hulle grootste treffers op ’n besonderse manier met bewonderaars te deel, het saam met Kobie Koen van Vonk Musiek ontwikkel tot ’n geleentheid om nuwe materiaal op te neem en vry te stel.
Die duo sien baie uit om meer van hulle musiek met luisteraars te deel en beplan ook om binnekort ’n album vry te stel.
Wanneer hy nie op die verhoog is nie, geniet Jan dit om te skilder en beeldhouwerk te doen. Hy is ook die eienaar van Jan Blohm-kunsgalery en Blohmhuis-teater en aanlyn winkel in die Strand.
“Blohmhuis-teater bied intieme vertonings vir besoekers en kunstenaars en om hierdie droom te kon bewaarheid is werklik ’n seën. Ek sien baie uit om dié projek verder te sien ontwikkel,” sê hy.
As Ryno nie sing nie, hou hy sy lyf grafiese ontwerper en fotograaf en geniet hy dit om musiek te vervaardig vir spesiale projekte.
Hy verklap: “Hierdie jaar het ek sover baie musiek geskryf en vervaardig. Buiten vir my werk saam met Jan, het ek ook saam met Fred den Hartog, Middelvinger en Albert Frost aan ’n rock-album begin werk en skryf ek ook graag liedjies vir ander kunstenaars.”
KAAP bou voort of die suksesvolle fondasie wat hierdie twee veelsydige manne reeds vir hulleself gelê het en laat jou uitsien na wat hulle volgende beplan.
“Hierdie liedjie is ’n toeganklike, bitter soet verhaal wat op die uiteinde iets los vir die verbeelding – ’n resep wat ons voel die luisteraar gaan vermaak en terselfdertyd ook sal laat dink,” sluit hulle af.
