Q&A with Isaac Ordonez: Pugsley Addams on “Wednesday”

What excited you most as you set out to film Season 2?

Isaac Ordonez: It’s wonderful that we get to see more Pugsley and that we get to see his character really grow this season.

What has it been like to witness this show turn into a global phenomenon?

Ordonez: Seeing the big success was amazing, but surprising. I knew the show was going to do well, but I don’t think any of us expected it to boldly skyrocket like it did.

For those discovering the series for the first time, how would you describe Pugsley?

Ordonez: Pugsley is Wednesday’s younger brother and he isn’t easily accepted. He really wants to fit in and he really wants a friend.

Where is Pugsley going to school this year, and will he make some new friends there?

Ordonez: This year, Pugsley is going to be attending Nevermore. As far as making friends goes, it’s not looking very good.

What is the tale of the Skull Tree and what does it inspire Pugsley to do?

Ordonez: The tale of the Skull Tree is about a Nevermore legend, one of Nevermore’s greatest minds. He created amazing inventions, including his own clockwork heart. But the longer he had his clockwork heart, the darker he became. Eventually, one of his inventions malfunctioned and it led to his death. He was buried under the Skulltree and legend says: If you listen closely, you can still hear his clockwork heart. My character hears this story and is inspired to go dig him up, revive him, and try to be friends with him.

Leading into this, what sort of pickle does Pugsley get himself into at the start of the new school year?

Ordonez: The pickle that Pugsley gets himself into at the start of the school year is reviving a dead zombie and having to take care of it. It escapes a few times, eats a few people, but no problem. Pugsley still cares for him.

Who is Eugene (Moosa Mostafa) and what is his relationship with Pugsley like?

Ordonez: Eugene is the beekeeper who was friends with Wednesday in Season 1, and his relationship with Pugsley is … well, he doesn’t exactly like him, but he doesn’t hate him. He tolerates Pugsley.

Speaking of Wednesday and Pugsley, what is their relationship like now that Pugsley is at Nevermore?

Ordonez: Well, it is Wednesday, so not much has changed there. But she still cares for him and takes responsibility for him and goes through a lot to keep him out of trouble.

What has it been like to work with Tim Burton again this season?

Ordonez: It’s been amazing working with Tim. He really adds detail to every scene he works on, and he just went much bigger this season. There’s more special effects, more monsters, more villains, more action. Fans are really going to love it.

How did Pugsley’s look evolve in Season 2?

Ordonez: Costume added some more fun looks with Pugsley. You aren’t just going to see him in his normal black-and-white sweater and shorts like you usually do. He’s in a school environment, so you see him in various school uniforms and costumes as well.

How was filming in Ireland?

Ordonez: The country is amazing. It was great because we were able to utilize some of the natural stuff in Ireland. We filmed at a waterfall and at a really cool building in Dublin, which you’ll see in Episodes 3 and 4.

What can fans look forward to in Season 2?

Ordonez: Bigger everything than Season 1. More villains, more family, more Pugsley, more Nevermore, more characters, more action, more storylines.

Let’s talk a little about the revelations and chaotic events at the end of Episode 4, which ends on a pretty huge cliff-hanger. What were your thoughts about that pivotal episode?

Ordonez: Episode 4 was amazing and some crazy stuff happened — Tyler (Hunter Doohan) escaped confinement, Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci) died, Wednesday got thrown off a second-story building, the Avian was revealed, Slurp ate more people. It leaves off on an ultimate cliff-hanger because Tyler also gets shot by the police, so we don’t know if Tyler or Wednesday are alive, dead, or horribly injured.

Without giving too many spoilers away, what can you tease about Pugsley’s journey in the second half of the season?

Ordonez: Pugsley goes on a search party with some family. Let’s just say he finds what he’s searching for and it greatly affects the rest of the show.
