Bolshoi Ballet Season Launches At Cinema Nouveau With The Fun And Frivolous Production Of “The Bright Stream”

the-bright-stream-sy-posterA new season of seven wonderful ballets from Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet company will be screened at Cinema Nouveau theatres over the next six months. The first ballet to be enjoyed on the big screen is The Bright Stream, which releases on Saturday, 22 October for limited screenings.

The other productions in this season include: The Golden Age (from 12 November), The Nutcracker (17 December), Swan Lake (18 February 2017), The Sleeping Beauty (10 March), A Contemporary Evening (21 April) and finally, A Hero of our Time (12 May). The ballets are brought to the big screen by Fathom Events, BY Experience and Pathé Live.

The brilliant and hilarious production, The Bright Stream, is captured from the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow, for broadcast to cinemas globally, including South Africa. During the harvest festival at a collective farm, a visiting dance troupe reunites a ballerina with her childhood friend Zina. In order to teach her unfaithful husband a lesson, Zina, the ballerina and the ballerina’s husband decide to swap roles for the evening…

Choreographer Alexei Ratmansky invokes the genius of Dmitri Shostakovich’s score at the Bolshoi, creating a laugh-out-loud masterpiece that features slapstick comedy, hilarious deceptions, false identities – including Principal Dancer Ruslan Skvortsov dressed as a Sylph – and its many colourful characters! The Bolshoi bursts with vivid life and bright spirits in Ratmansky’s brilliantly choreographed smash.
