Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped, and no one knows why…
School is almost out, and everyone is getting into the holiday mood! To celebrate this special time of the year, Ster-Kinekor is inviting its young movie fans to have some fun with Disney’s latest and lovable animated character, Moana. The upcoming animation comedy adventure film sails into Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationwide this Friday, 02 December.
To make the release of the film extra special, kids can enjoy a day of fun-filled activities at select Ster-Kinekor sites on Saturday, 03 December. The fun starts at 9am and continues till 3pm. There will be colouring-in activity sheets, with two great hampers up for grabs at each cinema. Girls will receive island-style flowers to wear in their hair, and both boys and girls can decorate their arms with tattoos (non-permanent) just like the mighty demigod Maui. Show off your physical abilities with a demonstration of ‘how low you can go’ with instant prizes up for grabs.
Once you are finished having fun, make sure you book your tickets to watch Moana at your favourite Ster-Kinekor cinema. The activities on Saturday 03 December take place at the following Ster-Kinekor cinemas: Cresta, Greenstone, Eastgate, and Bedford in Johannesburg; Maponya Mall in Soweto; Cradlestone Mall in Krugersdorp; Mall of Africa in Midrand; Irene in Centurion; The Grove Mall and Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria; Gateway, Watercrest Mall and Musgrave in Durban; Baywest Mall in Port Elizabeth; Garden Route Mall in George; Somerset Mall in Somerset West; and Tyger Valley, CapeGate, Blue Route and Cavendish in Cape Town.
From the creators of Frozen and Zootopia, Moana, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 56th animated feature, is a sweeping, CG-animated film about an adventurous teenager, Moana (voice of Auliʻi Cravalho), who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana convinces the mighty demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a ‘wayfinder’ like her ancestors who sailed before her.
Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds. Along the way, Moana fulfills her quest and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.
The film also features some wonderful home-grown Mzansi talent. Disney Africa is proud to announce that South African singer-songwriter and performing artist Lira, has recorded her own version of How Far I’ll Go. Lira’s recording will feature on the South African version of the film as the first end-credit song when Moana hits cinemas from Friday 02 December nationwide.
“How Far I’ll Go beautifully encapsulates the elements of Moana that resonate with me, to break away from conformity, to be bold, go out and discover what makes you uniquely you,” says Lira. “It’s a real honour to be involved! Also, the fact that Disney is able to incorporate and feature African voices in projects such as this, is truly exciting.”
The running time of the film is 103 mins and it carries a PG classification. All the benefits and discounts applicable to membership of Ster-Kinekor’s loyalty programmes – SK Club, Discovery Loyalty and Edgars Club – are applicable when booking tickets for Moana. The film sails into Ster-Kinekor’s 2D and 3D cinemas, and can also be enjoyed in the ultra-luxurious, fully reclinable seats in the Ster-Kinekor Cine Prestige cinemas at select sites.
