After receiving rave reviews across the board from critics and audiences alike, this smash hit production is now playing at the Mandela Theatre (Joburg Theatre) until 5 March 2017, after enjoying a sold-out Cape Town run. This phenomenal 100% South African production with a superb cast of 40 is backed by a live philharmonic orchestra playing Bernstein’s magnificent score which includes the world famous songs “Something’s Coming”, “Maria”, “I Feel Pretty” and “Tonight”.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet and set in mid-1950s New York, the musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two street gangs of different backgrounds. Tony, a former member of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks.
