Sea Point Housing

Despite one of its own departments earmarking the site for affordable housing in Sea Point to help redress some of the injustices of apartheid era planning, the Western Cape government went ahead and sold the Tafelberg School property to the highest bidder. However, the sale was halted on a technicality when the law centre, Ndifuna Ukwazi, took the provincial government to court. A new process was ordered and this time there were over 8 000 submissions to the provincial government for and against affordable housing on the site. Carte Blanche takes a look at this divided community.

Farm Murders

Since the start of 2017, 26 farmers have been brutally murdered. Recent statistics indicate that as many as one farm attack a day occurs across the country. Farmers say they’re under siege, but that government is turning a blind eye. Carte Blanche asks: why is this not enough reason to galvanise police and government into action?

Producer: Johann Botha
Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender

Adaptive Surfing

Surfing is one of the most popular water sports in the world and for able bodied swimmers it can be difficult to master. It’s inspired several variations, including windsurfing, wakeboarding and skim boarding, and now adaptive surfing – as surfers with disabilities also take to the waves. Carte Blanche suits up.
