The Voice SA: Will THere Be More Steals?

Get ready to rumble
Will there be more Steals on The Voice SA?

The Battle rounds of The Voice SA are now in full swing as the next duos of singers have to fight it out vocally in order to secure themselves a spot in the next phase of the competition, namely the Knock-Outs. The question that will be on everyone’s minds this week is whether there will be more Steals in this coming Sunday’s episode of the show. Each coach only has two opportunities to pinch talent from the other teams, forcing them to remain highly strategic in their decision-making during the Battles.

Last week, six Battle pairs took to the stage to sing for their lives and they were so good that two of the coaches exercised their “Steal” privilege, poaching talent from other teams. Kahn Morbee stole Cape Town’s pint-sized Al Petersen (28) from #TeamLira, while coach Bobby van Jaarsveld managed to nab #TeamKaren’s Armand Joubert (21), the singer with the incredible range from eMalahleni.

This week, 12 more talent will be paired up by their coaches to step into the boxing ring shaped Voice SA stage. There will be two Battles from #TeamBobby and #TeamKahn respectively this week, as well as one Battle from each of Lira and Karen Zoid’s teams too. With so much great talent to choose from, the coaches have also never shied away from picking some challenging musical artists and genres for their performers to cover. Amongst the song choices this week are a stomping Lady Gaga anthem, an R.E.M classic, as well as a hit single from Taylor Swift!

One of #TeamKahn’s picks for the next Battle rounds is undoubtedly the most unusual pairing in Voice SA history. The Parlotones front man decided to combine the bombastic, huge vocals of Fatman Brummer (40) from Bela-Bela with the classical, pure tones of harpist Christy-Lyn Marais (28) from Cape Town. In Christy-Lyn’s Blind Audition, where she accompanied herself on the harp, coach Karen Zoid told her that this is the weirdest that this show has ever gone, “but in a good way”. Larger-than-life Fatman had the coaches in stitches from the get-go, but coach Kahn wanted to see the more serious side of Fatman’s performance style in future rounds. Will Fatman be able to deliver a more solemn, genuine act on Sunday, and how on Earth will Kahn marry these two complete opposite singers into one cohesive act?

Tune in to M-Net at 17:30 on Sunday to watch Fatman, Christy-Lyn and the rest of the impressive talent in the Battle ring.

The Voice South Africa, sponsored by Dialdirect, is broadcast every Sunday night on M-Net channel 101 at 17:30 and every Monday night at 18:00 on M-Net City channel 115.
