They were best friends at college, but after graduation, life got in the way. Five years on, they re-unite for a weekend away to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival…and Girls Trip unravels on the big screen, taking you and your girls on an amazing adventure. Girls Trip is also the film that Ster-Kinekor has lined up as a special pre-screening for its July Girlfriends’ Getaway event, which is taking place at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationwide, on Wednesday, 26 July — exclusively for ladies.
The antics of these women will have your eyes glued to the screen and is the perfect movie for you and your besties. Jada Pinkett Smith (Lisa Cooper), Queen Latifah (Sasha Franklin), Regina Hall (Ryan Pierce), and Tiffany Haddish (Dina) star in Girls Trip about sisterhood and re-kindled friendship.
During their trip, what comes to light is each woman’s personal battles. Ryan is going through a hard time, Lisa is a devoted, single mum who needs some ‘me time’, Sasha is down on her luck, but Dina brings the laughs. There is plenty of eye candy too, with Larenz Tate (TV’s Power), Mike Colter (Marvel’s Luke Cage), and Kofi Siriboe (TV’s Queen Sugar).
Throughout the film, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing in neon wigs, drinking 100-year-old Absinthe, hallucinating, brawling, and romancing to keep you entertained. But the journey is not all laughs, and the strength of their sisterly bond and protective nature brings a relatable and heart-warming feel to a film, so have plenty of tissues on hand and wear water-proof mascara.
The film is directed by Malcolm D. Lee, best known for The Best Man Holiday (2013) releases nationally at Ster-Kinekor cinemas on Friday, 4 August. The running time is 90 minutes and the classification is PG16
