Six SAFTA Nominees To Stream Right Now

#SAFTAs2012 was trending in South Africa on Friday alongside the announcement of the nominees for the 12th annual South African Film and Television Awards at the Inanda Country Club in Johannesburg. To stay ahead of the conversation, you can now watch six of the nominees on Showmax this week:

iNumber Number

iNumber Number, Showmax’s crime co-production with Mzansi Magic, is up for Best Directing in a TV Drama, as well as Cinematography and Sound Design. In this hit sequel to Donovan Marsh’s award-winning film of the same name, SAFTA-winner Presley Chweneyagae (Tsotsi) and SAFTA-nominee S’dumo Mtshali (Isibaya) star as two cops up against an infamous crime family.

Point of Order

Inspired by the shenanigans in the South African Parliament, Point of Order is a comedy panel show that allows SA’s top comedians and special celebrity guests to talk politics like real MPs, perhaps with a little more sense and sensibility. It’s up for Best Game Show, a category it won last year. As Madame Speaker, Tumi Morake is also competing in the public vote for Best Presenter; SMS F to 48430 to vote for her.

Vlees Van My Vlees

Twelve years after a car accident, a jovial man (James Alexander) and his quadriplegic wife (Erica Wessels) celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. Winner of Best Short Film at Silwerskerm, Matthys Boshoff’s Vlees Van My Vlees is nominated for the SAFTA for Best Short Film and is also currently screening at Clermont-Ferrand, the world’s top short film festival in France.

Edik van Nantes

Follow Nataniel to France, where he puts the food, the culture and the people to the test in his trademark laid-back yet elegant style. Edik van Nantes’ recipe of good food and good company earned a SAFTA nomination for Best Variety and Magazine Show.

Op Die Oomblik – Deel Een

Get up, close and personal with Karen Zoid, the first lady of Afrikaans rock in South Africa. The documentary is up for Best Cinematography at the SAFTAs.

MTV Shuga

MTV Shuga: Down South and In Real Life are both nominated for the SAFTA for Best Youth Programme: Non-Fiction. Showmax has the first five seasons of the popular educational youth drama available to binge.

Binge from the beginning

Showmax also has the first 12 seasons of Most Popular Soap nominee Binnelanders; three seasons of Isibaya, up for nine Soap SAFTAs; Republiek van Zoid Afrika, up for Best Talk Show and Best Presenter (Karen Zoid); and Die Kliek, up for Best Game Show; as well as the first two seasons of both Suidooster, up for five Soap SAFTAs, and Most Popular Soap nominee Skeem Saam; and the first season of Hotel, up for seven Comedy SAFTAs; Die Boekklub, up for five Drama SAFTAs; Igazi, up for Drama: Sound Design; Best Talk Show nominee Jou Storie Met Nina; Most Popular Soap nominee Getroud Met Rugby: DIe Sepie; and Die Boland Moorde, which is up for two SAFTAs, including Best Drama.

Showmax also congratulates Julia Anastasopoulos and Sketchbook Studios on their four well-deserved nominations for Suzelle DIY as Best TV Comedy, Actress, Cinematography and Editing. Julia and Sketchbook Studios created Tali’s Wedding Diary, the first Showmax Original, which broke streaming audience records on its release on Showmax in December and will be entered into next year’s SAFTAs.
