Take The Leap With DStv This February

The good news is there’s one whole extra day of incredible programmes to enjoy on DStv in February this leap year. It’s the month of love, leaps and awards and DStv is ensuring our customers are entertained to the max.

First off, there’s the 92nd Academy Awards which will be aired on M-Net (channel 101) on Monday 10 February at 02:00 for early risers and again at 21:00. Then there’s the 40th Brit Awards, which can be seen on Tuesday 18 February on BBC Brit (channel 120).

But best of all, customers have some exciting new shows to look forward to in February, starting with international crime thriller The Prodigal Son, starring Michael Sheen. If you crave murder and crime in regular doses, this crime-investigation drama can be thought of as Elementary meets Criminal Minds, with a dash of The Blacklist. Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) is an ex-FBI profiler who joins the NYPD after he is relieved of his position (due to some unorthodox albeit brilliant crime-solving). Malcolm is haunted by his past and his parentage – his father is infamous serial killer Dr Martin Whitly aka The Surgeon (Michael Sheen), and Malcom spends his life trying to prove (mostly to himself) that he is nothing like his father.

Then, South Africa’s very own Boity Thulo is debuting her new reality series Boity: Own Your Throne on BET (channel 129) on Wednesday 5 February at 21:30. The Rockville actress and rapper will show viewers how she balances her business, family and spirituality since she accepted the calling to become a sangoma. The show will also introduce Mom Modiehi, her friend Bobby and her manager Bash.

An entire DStv channel (198) is going to be devoted to the first-of-its-kind Nigerian dating show Ultimate Love. If you’re a fan of Love Island, Temptation Island, Big Brother and the like, this is the show that incorporates all the elements from these programmes into one exciting 24/7 reality show. Eight male and eight female carefully chosen contestants are paired according to their attraction to each other and must see their love survive and flourish over eight weeks under the intense scrutiny of the general public. At the end of it all, the winning couple will be rewarded with a lavish traditional wedding, a fully furnished home and other prizes. It’s a social experiment unlike any other. The channel will run from 9 February until 5 April.

Still Breathing is M-Net’s (channel 101) newest local offering, showing once again the channel’s commitment to homegrown entertainment. (Last year’s Trackers was one of the biggest hits of 2019.) Starring well-known actors such as Brandon Auret, Siv Ngesi, Kate Liquorish and Shannon Esra, the show revolves around a group of friends who have lost touch over the years, but are brought together again by tragedy. It’s all about love, friendship, relationships and betrayal, and has been compared to shows such as This is Us and Parenthood, but has a uniquely South African spin. It starts on Thursday 27 February at 20:00.

It’s going to be a February of love, crime, reality, relationships and red carpets on DStv. We have so many moments to share with you, so be sure to be there for the ride.
