DStv May 2021 Highlights

From Masterchef to Musiekpaniek, all amazing things begin with an “m”, including “mom” – and on 9 May, we’ll be celebrating these incredible women in our lives.

On DStv, the celebrations will continue all month long. After all, the women who keep our families together and our households running like clockwork deserve the best entertainment every day. Whether your mom enjoys romance, prefers side-splitting comedy, or is in awe of the majesty of the world, there’s a DStv show just waiting to be discovered.

And while mom may be the centre of attention this month, there’s still plenty of great family viewing, too.

DStv’s School of Laughter brings the best edutainment straight to your screens with CBeebies’ (DStv channel 306) exciting line-up of programming for preschoolers. Over on Cartoon Network (DStv channel 301) and Da Vinci (DStv channel 318), older children can delight in shows featuring magic, superheroes, and ninjas while Jim Jam (DStv channel 310) will be airing two Thomas & Friends films on weekends throughout May.

Explore the realities of blended families in The Blended Bunch on TLC (DStv Channel 135). After the unfortunate loss of their spouses, Spencer and Erica find love again in a small town in Utah. After six weeks of dating, they decide to get hitched – to the surprise of their combined 11 – yes, 11! – kids. The Home Channel (DStv Channel 176) brings a touch of design to a chaotic living arrangement in Design Twins. Sisters Heidi and Heather start Joyful Living, an interior design business aimed at altering the lives of others through creative ideas, inventive solutions, and beautiful design. To get there, the sisters move in together – along with their partners and seven kids! Can they keep the creative juices flowing while juggling the everyday chaos of combining their families?

There are also plenty of new seasons of favourite shows piloting this month. Catch The Flash on M-Net City (DStv channel 115), E! True Hollywood Story on E! (DStv channel 124) and Little Women Atlanta on Lifetime (DStv channel 131). Fox (DStv channel 125) will also see the brand-new animated comedy series Solar Opposites starting this month – but be warned: this is not one for the kids.

Local television also doesn’t disappoint this May, with VIA (DStv channel 147), kykNET (DStv channel 144), and Moja Love (DStv channel 157) airing everything from OTT reality and dance-along music to high drama.

Keep mom – and the rest of the family – happy and entertained this month, only with DStv.

More for Mom

The month of May is all about mom – and that includes handpicked programming we’re sure she’ll love!

Every Friday throughout May, treat mom with two hours to herself when Universal TV’s (DStv channel 117) I Love Fridays airs only the best romance films. On Friday, 7 May, Truly, Madly, Sweetly sees a cupcake baker and divorced dad thrown together when they jointly inherit a historic baking site, while on Friday, 14 May, an adventure company worker discovers a renewed love of the outdoors when she scouts a dude ranch in Under the Autumn Moon. Love, Take Two, on Friday, 21 May, follows wedding-themed reality TV show producer Lily who is forced to reassess her choices when her ex is cast as the show’s next groom, and love takes to the skies in Love Takes Flight on Friday, 28 May, as a single mother learns to face her fears when she meets a handsome pilot.

For music-loving moms, History Channel (DStv channel 186) takes a closer look at an icon of music – Fleetwood Mac’s frontwoman Stevie Nicks. In Stevie Nicks: Wild at Heart, take a deep dive into the witchy, transcendental, and deep-rooted mysticism of one of the most prolific women in music.

National Geographic Wild (DStv channel 182) also celebrates the women of the wild this month. Every Friday throughout May, the channel will spotlight amazing female veterinarians, biologists, explorers, and conservationists in Women of Wild. And Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) invites you to Call Your Mother in a documentary that provides a hilarious ode to moms with Awkwafina, Jimmy Carr, Roy Wood Jr and more.

With even more amazing programming airing daily, there’s no shortage of mom-approved viewing on DStv.

Cool Kids

Fun edutainment is a top priority at DStv’s School of Laughter. CBeebies (DStv channel 306) will keep the little ones engaged while older kids can explore magic, superheroes, and ninjas on Cartoon Network (DStv channel 301) and Da Vinci (DStv channel 318). Expect lots of adventure as Jim Jam (DStv channel 310) will be airing two Thomas & Friends films on weekends throughout May.
